Dorothy E. Ryan

Dorothy E. “Dottie” Ryan – 62 – of 27 Wallingford Ave., Wallingford, PA, formerly of Hornell, died Thursday evening (July 4, 2013) at her home, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on March 27, 1951, she was the daughter of Arnold & Della (Cuda) Daniels.

Dottie was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1969).  In 1972 she received her Registered Nurses License following her graduation from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Elmira.

For about 20 years, Dottie was employed as a registered nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, primarily in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  She later served as assistant director of nursing at a long term nursing facility in Wellsville and also as a dialysis nurse in the dialysis unit at St. James Hospital.  For about 12 years, Dorothy served as a psychiatry nurse with the Steuben County Mental Health Clinic in Bath.  She retired in May, 2012 due to ill health.

Dottie was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.  She was an avid reader and was a longtime fan of the Buffalo Bills.  Her greatest joy in life, however, was simply enjoying her time spent with family & friends.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Katie (Dane) Czaplicki of Rose Valley, PA and Erin Ryan of Oceanside, CA; 1 brother, Francis (Susan) Daniels of Dover, DE; her former husband, Daniel Ryan of Corning; 2 granddaughters, Samantha Czaplicki & Katherine Czaplicki; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

The family of Dorothy E. “Dottie” Ryan will receive friends on Friday (July 12, 2013) from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday (July 13, 2013) at 1:00 PM at St. Ann’s Church.  A gathering of family & friends will follow at the Hornell Sons of Italy.

    Even though we lost contact with each other over the years, Dorothy (Daniels) Ryan was a very special person in my life. The bonds of growing up together stay with you throughout your lifetime. Dorothy was a wonderful friend and and I will always cherish the memories of the times we shared.
