Marianne A. Sivertsen – (70) – of 9255 County Road 15 B, Canaseraga, passed away early Friday morning (December 26, 2014) with family at her side at her home in Birdsall, NY following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on December 6, 1944, she was the daughter of Louis & Marian (Nicholson) Albert.

Marianne lived in the Hornell – Almond area until the sixth grade when her family moved to Marion, OH.  She graduated from Marion Catholic High School (class of 1963) and later attended (2 years) at Ohio State University.  Moving to California in 1966, Marianne received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Alan Hancock College in Lompoc, CA.

For about 4 years, she was employed at Anaconda Aluminum in Columbia Falls, MT, primarily in the Service Department.  She also served as manager of the Kalispell Bar & Grill and as a bartender & waitress at the Outlaw Inn, both in Kalispell, MT.

In 1979, Marianne moved back to the Hornell area and briefly worked in Real Estate.  From 1979 – 1988 she was employed at the former SKF Industries.  She was the first woman hired in the Union and worked as a Master Scheduler and Production Planner.

In 1993, she decided to return to college and earned her BA Degree in Psychology and her Masters Degree in Education in Counseling Psychology from St. Bonaventure University.

For the past 15 years, Marianne was employed at various jobs, including Outreach Manager of Allegany ARC and Kinship Care Coordinator.    During 2001 until 2004 she lived in New York City working for Phoenix House Foundation to obtain her credential as a substance abuse counselor (CASAC) and from 2007 until the present time as Addiction Counselor at Loyola Recovery Foundation at the Bath VA Hospital.

She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church of Canaseraga where she was past Director of Religious Education (DRE), a member of the Pro Life Committee, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.  She enjoyed the outdoors, and especially loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

In addition to her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by her brother, David Albert and also her brother-in-law, John Guyton.

Surviving are her son, Joseph (Shena) Sivertsen of West Chicago, IL; 2 daughters, Julianna (Craig) Parsons of Choteau, MT and Mamie (Brian) Brewster of Choteau, MT; 5 sisters, Virginia Guyton of Pinnacle, NC, Barbara Albert of Birdsall, Patty (Jonathan Sulyma) Lupo of Almond, Eileen (Glenn) Pennington of Lexington, NC and Rita Nicholson of Hamilton, MT;
7 grandchildren, Karina Sivertsen, Colton Parsons, Cecilia Parsons, Cooper Parsons, Katherine (Drew) Inzinna, Autumn (Brandon) VanSkiver & Jacob Brewster; 1 great-grandson, Dominic Inzinna; many nieces & nephews.

The family of Marianne A. Sivertsen will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at
St. Mary’s Church in Canaseraga with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.

The Family will hold a “Celebration of Life” following the burial, located at the Canaseraga American Legion for all family and friends who would like to attend.
