Jane (Fouquet) Mathewson

Jane MathewsonJane (Fouquet) Mathewson – 91 – of Canaseraga, NY went to be with the Lord on Thursday (July 14, 2016).  Jane was loved and known by many for her generous heart and quick wit.  She was an inspirational woman who faced the trials in her life with a kind heart, strong mind, and brave spirit.

Jane was born in Rochester, NY on July 30, 1924, the daughter of John and Edna (Ritz) Fouquet.

In the early years, Jane worked at The Ritter Company as a tool designer while living in Rochester, NY.  She later moved to Syracuse, NY and married David Mathewson, and together they raised seven children.  Jane loved antiquing, and her passion for antiques led her to establish her own business, “Fouquet Antiques,” which she operated out of her garage in Syracuse.  Throughout the years, she also sold photo albums, portraits, and encyclopedias.  Jane enjoyed working, but she was most proud of her role as homemaker and mother.  She especially loved the summers spent at the family cottage at Point Peninsula on Lake Ontario.

In addition to her husband, David, who died July 17, 2006, Jane was preceded in death by two brothers, John Fouquet and Richard Fouquet.

Jane is survived by five sons, Richard (Barbara) Mathewson of Virginia Beach, VA; Christy (Pat Plyter) Mathewson of Waterloo, NY; Terry (Mary) Mathewson of North Syracuse, NY; Timothy (Carol) Mathewson of Cicero, NY; David (Debbie) Mathewson of North Syracuse, NY; two daughters, Mary (Gary) Bajus with whom she resided for the past 10 years in Canaseraga, NY; Linda (Michael) Bellamy of Auburn, NY; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; her cousin and best friend, Dorothy Gotham of Honeoye, NY; many nieces and nephews.

At Jane’s request, there will be no calling hours.  A memorial service will take place on July 30th at 11:00 AM at the Auburn Church of the Nazarene, 3360 East Genesee St., Auburn, NY 13021.  Interment will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery in Syracuse, NY later that same day.

In lieu of flowers, Jane’s family requests that memorial contributions in her name be made to The Little White Church (c/o Lake & River Parish) PO Box 593, Cape Vincent, NY 13618.   Click here to print a memorial form.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.

Dear Mathewson family and extended families
    Please accept my sincere condolences
I am so glad I got a chance to meet her in early eighties when I was living in Fabius and Albany with the the Bajus Family. We cerebrated many occasions together such as birthdays, thanksgiving, Christmas, and family fun events.
She was a faithful prayer warrior for people in need of salvation and deliverance. May the Lord comfort you as you celebrate the legacy of her love, devotion, and faithfulness
