Betty J. Butler

image004Betty J. Butler – (88) – formerly of 109 Front St., Hornell, died Thursday afternoon (March 23, 2017) at Elderwood at Hornell where she had resided for the past two years.

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born March 7, 1929, and was the daughter of James & Catherine (Campbell) Vosburg.

Betty was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1946). She had been employed for a time at the former Keiser Glove Factory and Merrill Hosiery. For about 25 years, Betty was employed as a seamstress at the former Marion Rohr Corporation in Hornell.

She was married on February 14, 1948 (sixty years) to Newell “Nate” Butler who died July 3, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, James Butler who died in 1999; 2 grandsons, Shane Andrew Butler who died in 1981 and Mark Andrew Butler who died in 2002; along with her 9 brothers & sisters.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Beverly (Jerry) Bertram of Canisteo and Barbara (Pete) McMichael of Almond; 2 sons, Andrew “Andy” (Pat) Butler of Hornell and Richard “Rich” (Diane) Butler of Hornell; 11 grandchildren, Cathy Baker, Christopher (Donna) Bertram, Amy Butler, Paul Butler, Nicole Butler, Brian (Sue) Butler, Chad Butler, Cliff (Bria) McMichael, Curk McMichael, Andrea (Randy) Smith & Amanda (Ted Quant) Butler; 16 great-grandchildren, Kelsie Baker, Callie Baker, Robert Butler, Liam Mulhollen, Kennedy (Cameron) Lawrence, Devyn Butler, Riley Butler, Cohen McMichael & Haylee Smith , Charlee Quant, Baby Boy Quant (expected in July), Emily Kuhn, Thomas Kuhn, Kayla Kuhn, Stephen Jefferds and Billy Jefferds; several nieces & nephews.

The family of Betty J. Butler will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where funeral & committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.

Betty’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home or click here to print a form.
