Theresa Ann Gulliver Woolgar

Thresea Ann Gulliver Woolgar -68- of 50 Center St., Hornell, died Friday afternoon (September 22, 2017) in Almond following a long illness.

Born in Elmira NY on December 27, 1948, she was the eldest surviving daughter of Albert & Virginia (Erwin) Smith.

In her youth, Theresa resided in many locations throughout the Eastern United States including Troy Texas, Rochester, and Greenwood, before settling in Hornell where she has lived for nearly 30 years.

In 1991, Theresa decided to further her education and received her Human Services degree from Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred) in 1995. It was shortly afterwards that she began her career at Steuben County ARC as a program specialist where she was able to pursue her passion of helping people.

Theresa enjoyed college and continued taking distance-learning courses at Ashford University in Iowa where she was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2008. Theresa was promoted to Program Specialist at ARC, where she retired in 2014.

Theresa and her husband, Christopher Woolgar, whom she married on July 6th, 2002, attended the Free Methodist Church of Hornell on Washington Street.

She enjoyed reading and collecting books, sewing, shopping, people watching, taking online course to broaden her education, and helping individuals with disabilities. Among her hobbies, she also enjoyed spending time with her best friend and sister-in-law, Laurel Turner-Studley, with whom she went on several cruises and, most recently, visited Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her former husband Larry Gulliver.

In addition to her husband, Theresa is survived by her son, Larry Gulliver, who serves as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy; 5 grandchildren Kyle Gulliver, Katelyn Dinger, Logan Filippi, Alexis Dinger, and Liam Gulliver; two sisters Nancy Smith and Molly (Jeff) Hawver; brothers-in-law, David Woolgar, Jaime (Barb Hadsell) Woolgar, Richard Woolgar; her sisters-in-law, Faye (Tom) Wickwire and Laurel (Roy Sanford) Turner-Studley; her nieces, Ginette Richard, Jessica Tonnini and Valorie Tonnini; along with her “grandkids”, Owen Sanford & Sophia Sanford.

The family of Theresa Ann Woolgar will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 7:00 PM with Rev. Alan Bliss officiating.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.

Theresa’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY13790.  Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home or click here to print a memorial form.
