{"id":1052,"date":"2012-08-27T13:31:47","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T13:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1052"},"modified":"2012-08-27T13:31:48","modified_gmt":"2012-08-27T13:31:48","slug":"nicholas-b-nick-gangemi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1052","title":{"rendered":"Nicholas B. &#8220;Nick&#8221; Gangemi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1053\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1053\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1053\" title=\"Nick Gangemi Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Nick-Gangemi-Photo-250x324.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Nick-Gangemi-Photo-250x324.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Nick-Gangemi-Photo-200x259.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Nick-Gangemi-Photo.jpg 443w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Nicholas B. \u201cNick\u201d Gangemi \u2013 90 \u2013 of 73 Pine St., Hornell, died Thursday evening (August 23, 2012) at Hornell Gardens.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Galeton, PA on July 17, 1922, he was the son of James &amp; Josephine (Federico) Gangemi.<\/p>\n<p>Nick was a lifelong resident of Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1941).\u00a0 He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Air Force.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Nick was employed as a diesel mechanic at the former Erie Railroad.\u00a0 He later began working at the Mobil Service Station on Main St., Hornell and in 1960 purchased the business and re-naming it Nick\u2019s Mobil.\u00a0 He owned &amp; operated Nick\u2019s Mobil on Main Street for many years and eventually moved the business to Seneca Street and where he continued to serve his many customers for many more years.\u00a0 Following his retirement he served as a volunteer in the Radiology Department at St. James Mercy Hospital.<!--more-->Nick was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and later a member of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Hornell Moose Lodge.\u00a0 Nick was an avid football fan who enjoyed watching both college football (especially Notre Dame) and pro football.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by 6 sisters, Frances Cardamone, Mary Leuzzi, Lena Leto, Rose Mazzella, Althea Cardman and Angeline Mardo; 2 brothers, Rocco Gangemi and Joseph Gangemi.<\/p>\n<p>He was married on May 18, 1946 to the former Elizabeth \u201cBetty\u201d Black who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are his daughter, Linda (Steve) Gobel of Groton, NY; 2 grandsons, Eric Gobel of Chicago, IL and Andrew Gobel of Cortland, NY; many nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Nick Gangemi would like to thank the wonderful staff &amp; caregivers at both Hornell Gardens and St. James Mercy hospital for the wonderful &amp; professional care given to Nick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At Nick\u2019s request there will be no prior calling hours.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.\u00a0 Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Nick\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be given to St. Ann\u2019s Academy, PO box 446, Hornell, NY 14843<\/p>\n<p>In honor of Nick\u2019s service to his country during WWII, the American Flag will be flown at Half-Staff on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nicholas B. \u201cNick\u201d Gangemi \u2013 90 \u2013 of 73 Pine St., Hornell, died Thursday evening (August 23, 2012) at Hornell Gardens.
