{"id":1095,"date":"2012-11-20T20:16:26","date_gmt":"2012-11-20T20:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1095"},"modified":"2012-11-20T20:16:26","modified_gmt":"2012-11-20T20:16:26","slug":"dorothy-ormsby-argentieri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1095","title":{"rendered":"Dorothy Ormsby Argentieri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1099\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1099\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1099\" title=\"Dorothy Argentieri Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Dorothy-Argentieri-Photo2-250x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Dorothy-Argentieri-Photo2-250x264.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Dorothy-Argentieri-Photo2-200x211.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Dorothy-Argentieri-Photo2.jpg 567w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Dorothy Ormsby Argentieri,76, of 5495 Elm Valley Road, Alfred Station, died Monday, November 19, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on August 14, 1936, she was the daughter of Rowland and Guinevere (Wilcox) Ormsby.<\/p>\n<p>Dorothy grew up in the Alfred area and was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School.\u00a0 In 1958, she graduated from Alfred University with a degree in Psychology.\u00a0 She received her Master\u2019s Degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo in 1962.<\/p>\n<p>She was married on November 28, 1959, to William \u201cChop\u201d Argentieri.\u00a0 Together they resided in Hornell for many years and have lived in Alfred Station since 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Her teaching career began in Pittsford, NY where she taught kindergarten. She also taught kindergarten in Canisteo and Hornell.\u00a0 For many years Dorothy was employed at SUNY Alfred, first as a reading specialist and later as Director of Human Resources.\u00a0 She retired in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Dorothy served as a volunteer and member of many organizations, including: the American Association of University Women; Planned Parenthood; Camp Fire Girls, where she also served as a group leader for her daughter; the Hornell Library Board; Sigma Chi Nu Sorority of Alfred University. She was a Life Member of Baker\u2019s Bridge Historical Society.\u00a0 She was a \u201cdie-hard\u201d New York Yankees fan and also an avid Buffalo Bills fan \u2013 having been a season ticket holder for many years.\u00a0 Dorothy was a phenomenal Bridge player, recognized as a Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League.\u00a0 She also enjoyed playing golf and tennis.\u00a0 She loved to travel, especially to visit her children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Heinz Zydor and Robert Argentieri.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are her husband, William \u201cChop\u201d Argentieri; 2 daughters, Judy Argentieri (Ben Watts) of Champaign, IL and Kate (Kevin) Nawracaj of Chicago, IL; a son, Matt, of Hornell; 4 sisters, Adele Zydor of New Jersey, Elizabeth Hall of Hornell, Alberta (Dick) Brown of Clarence Center and Eleanor (Bob) Rink of North Hornell; 2 brothers, Rowland (Ginny) Ormsby of La Grange, IN and William (Teddy) Ormsby of Hornell; her in-laws, Francis (Mary Ann) Argentieri, James (Phyllis) Argentieri, Mary Agnes (Don) Crosby and Ginny Argentieri, all of Hornell; 5 grandchildren, Olivia Watts, Samuel Watts, Ella Nawracaj, Ethan Nawracaj and Elise Nawracaj; many nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Dorothy\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Service will be held at United Presbyterian Church, 150 Main Street, Hornell, at 10:30am on Friday, November 23, 2012.\u00a0 Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to \u201cAlfred University\u201d and will be designated to the University&#8217;s Baccalaureate Scholarship Program in memory of Dorothy.\u00a0 Checks should be made payable to &#8220;Alfred University&#8221;, and sent to University Relations, 1 Saxon Drive, Alfred, NY 14802. Please include a note stating that your gift is in memory of Dorothy Ormsby Argentieri &#8217;58.
