FitzGerald"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1236\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1236\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1236\" title=\"Francis FitzGerald Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Francis-FitzGerald-Photo-250x332.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Francis-FitzGerald-Photo-250x332.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Francis-FitzGerald-Photo-200x265.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Francis-FitzGerald-Photo.jpg 988w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/strong>Francis J. \u201cFran\u201d FitzGerald &#8211; (82) \u2013 formerly of 7345 Fawn Hill Drive, Hornell, died Monday (March 18, 2013) at McAuley Manor where he had resided for the past eight years.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on April 28, 1930, he was the son of Michael &amp; Johanna (Schreck) FitzGerald.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fran was a graduate of both St. Ann\u2019s School and Hornell High School (Class of 1948).\u00a0 He later attended St. Bonaventure University.\u00a0 He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at the Seventh Army Headquarters in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>In 1956, he moved to Manhattan and also owned a home in Southampton.\u00a0 Fran was employed as men\u2019s clothing buyer for the Finchley Establishment and later worked for Magnavox Corporation.\u00a0 For 15 years he was employed by 3M Corporation, retiring as regional manager.\u00a0 He returned to Hornell in 1994.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Fran was a member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus, Hornell American Legion, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Hornell Association and the Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy).\u00a0 He had also served on the as an officer of the Hornell Alumni Association.<\/p>\n<p>He was married in New York City on July 25, 1964, to the former Ann Boynton who died April 21, 2003.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by 6 sisters, Josephine FitzGerald, Mary Grieve, Alice Scott, Catherine \u201cCate\u201d FitzGerald, Virginia FitzGerald and Eleanor FitzGerald; 1 brother, Maurice FitzGerald.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 1 brother, Gerald \u201cJerry\u201d (Josephine) FitzGerald of Hornell; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Fran\u2019s request there will be no prior calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday (March 28, 2013) at 12:00 Noon at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.<\/p>\n<p>Fran\u2019s family request that memorial contributions may be made to either St. Ann\u2019s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Hornell Alumni Association, PO Box 135, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of his service to his country during the Korean Conflict, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Francis J. \u201cFran\u201d FitzGerald &#8211; (82) \u2013 formerly of 7345 Fawn Hill Drive, Hornell, died Monday (March 18, 2013) at McAuley Manor where he had resided for the past eight years.
