Jones \u2013 70 \u2013 of 15 Wightman Ave., North Hornell, died unexpectedly late Friday evening (April 12, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he had been taken by ambulance after being stricken at home.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Wellsville on June 13, 1942, he was the son of Harry &amp; Marion (Roeske) Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Loren grew up in Wellsville, NY and attended Wellsville High School.\u00a0 He was a four year veteran of the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1965.\u00a0 He later served six years in the US Army Reserves.\u00a0 He resided in Castile, NY for many years and has lived in North Hornell for the past 15 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For several years, Loren was employed as a milker &amp; herdsman at Emerling Farm in Perry.\u00a0 For about 10 years he worked as a machinist at Gunlock Corporation in Wayland, retiring about 5 years ago.\u00a0 He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0 Loren also loved watching NASCAR and going to the Woodhull Race Track.\u00a0 His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his wife, Kathy Jones of Hornell; his former wife, Sandra Sherwood Jones with whom he resided; 3 sons, Jason (Ashley Vickers) Jones of Hornell, Christopher Gerwitz of Little Valley and Stephen Gerwitz of Little Valley; 1 daughter, Rhonda (Michael) Burlin of Salamanca; his step-children, Karen Amidon of Georgia, Jim Amidon of Rochester, Kari (Jason) Ide of Pennsylvania and Beckie Austin of Wellsville; his mother, Marion Jones of\u00a0 Morristown, TN; 1 brother, Roger (Nancy) Jones of Tennessee; 4 sisters, Merriel Blyler of Flemington, NJ, Sharon Mangieri of Archbald, PA, Susan (Rick) Denley of Wayland and Debbie (Brian) Scanlon of Bean Station, TN; 15 grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Loren D. Jones will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the<br \/>\nDagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY, where a Memorial Service with military honors will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating.<\/p>\n<p>Loren\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to either the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 13067, Alexandria, VA\u00a0\u00a0 22312 or to the American Cancer, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or to the Hornell City Ambulance, 110 Broadway, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Loren\u2019s service to his country, the American Flag will be flown at half-staff at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Loren D.
