(Gallese) Roast \u2013 95 \u2013 of 35 Old Pine Lane, Rochester, formerly of Hornell, died Wednesday morning (June 19, 2013) at Rochester General Hospital, following a brief illness.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Born in Hornell on February 27, 1918, she was the daughter of Carmine &amp; Nicoletta (DeSanto) Gallese.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Rita grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann\u2019s School.\u00a0 She later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1936).\u00a0 Following high school, Rita earned her registered nurses\u2019 license from St. James School of Nursing in Hornell.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0She was employed for a time as a registered nurse at Rockefeller Research Hospital in New York City.\u00a0 She resided in Buffalo, NY for several years and later lived in Seaford, Del for over 40 years, where she was a long-time active volunteer and officer of the Auxiliary of Stockley Center.\u00a0 She has resided in Rochester for the past seven years.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0While in Hornell, Rita was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0She was married in 1948 to John R. Roast who died in 1975.\u00a0 She was also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Angelo \u201cHarp\u201d Gallese, Dominick \u201cBill\u201d Gallese, Charles Gallese, Donald Gallese and Francis \u201cFrank\u201d Gallese; 5 sisters, Rose Marino, Jovenia \u201cDena\u201d Libordi, Josephine Gallese, Josephine Gallese and Mary Felli; her nephews, Tony Marino, Charles Marino, Michael Gallese and Dominick Gallese JR<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Surviving are her daughter, Rosemary (Richard Derwitsch) Roast of Winsted, CT; 1 sister, Lucy Wiley of Hornell; her cousin &amp; dear friend, Grace Moretti Eagan of Hornell; many nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0At Rita\u2019s request there will be no prior calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday (July 6, 2013) at 11:00 AM\u00a0\u00a0at St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 Final interment will be in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Funeral arrangements are in care of the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Rita\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to Franciscan Mission Associates, 274-280 West Lincoln Ave., PO Box 598, Mount Vernon, NY 10551.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rita A.
