{"id":1392,"date":"2013-09-20T19:01:44","date_gmt":"2013-09-20T19:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1392"},"modified":"2013-09-20T19:01:44","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T19:01:44","slug":"donald-r-don-marlatt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1392","title":{"rendered":"Donald R. &#8220;Don&#8221; Marlatt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1393\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1393\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1393\" title=\"Don Marlatt Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Don-Marlatt-Photo-250x269.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Don-Marlatt-Photo-250x269.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Don-Marlatt-Photo-200x215.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Don-Marlatt-Photo.jpg 505w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Donald R. \u201cDon\u201d Marlatt \u2013 80 \u2013 of 81 North Church St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Thursday evening (September 19, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he had been taken by city ambulance after being stricken at home.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Canisteo on September 8, 1933, he was the son of Elwin &amp; Rachel (Burchard) Marlatt.<\/p>\n<p>Don grew up in Canisteo and attended Canisteo Central School.\u00a0 He later served his country as a member of the US Air Force.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A resident of Hornell for most of his adult life, Don served several years as a firefighter for the Hornell Fire Department.\u00a0 He worked for several years at the former Marion Rohr Corporation and for 22 years was employed at Foster-Wheeler Corporation in Dansville, retiring in 1995 as a clerk.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Don had a deep love of sports and was a diehard NY Yankee fan.\u00a0 He also loved rooting for the New York Giants Football Team and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.\u00a0 Don also love watching golf and pulling for his favorite player, Tiger Woods.<\/p>\n<p>For many years Don served as a coach in the Hornell Little League Baseball League and the Hornell Babe Ruth Baseball League.\u00a0 He also enjoyed umpiring in many leagues throughout the area.<\/p>\n<p>Don was married on July 23, 1960 to the former Carol Petrilli who died July 12, 2005.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by his brother, Clayton Marlatt.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his son, Michael J. Marlatt of Hornell; 1 brother, Charles (Shirley) Marlatt of Canisteo; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John &amp; Christine Petrilli; sister-in-law, Sheila Marlatt; several nieces, nephews &amp; Cousins.<\/p>\n<p>At Don\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to: St. Jude Children\u2019s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dep\u2019t 300, Memphis TN, 38148.<\/p>\n<p>In honor of Don\u2019s military service, the American Flag will be flown at half-staff at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Donald R. \u201cDon\u201d Marlatt \u2013 80 \u2013 of 81 North Church St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Thursday evening (September 19, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he had been taken by city ambulance after being stricken at home.
