{"id":1416,"date":"2013-10-31T02:19:07","date_gmt":"2013-10-31T02:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1416"},"modified":"2013-11-01T14:23:47","modified_gmt":"2013-11-01T14:23:47","slug":"gertrude-trudy-butera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1416","title":{"rendered":"Gertrude &#8220;Trudy&#8221; Butera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1417\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1417\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1417\" title=\"Gertrude Butera Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Gertrude-Butera-Photo-250x336.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Gertrude-Butera-Photo-250x336.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Gertrude-Butera-Photo-200x269.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Gertrude-Butera-Photo.jpg 809w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Gertrude Ann \u201cTrudy\u201d Butera \u2013 93 \u2013 of State Route 21, Almond, died Tuesday morning (October 29, 2013) at the Wellsville Manor, following a brief illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Leetonia, OH on July 23, 1920, she was the daughter of Joseph &amp; Mary (Perry) Butera.<\/p>\n<p>Trudy was a graduate of Leetonia High School (class of 1938).\u00a0 Following high school, she worked as a cashier for Mutual Discount Company for 1 year and from 1939-1951 was employed as a cashier and assistant manager for Capital Finance Corporation.\u00a0 From 1951-1959, Trudy served as Vice President of the Union National Bank of Youngstown, OH.\u00a0 She later served as Administrative Assistant of Marketing at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While in her late 40\u2019s, Trudy decided to further her education and in 1969 she received her B.S. \/ B.A. Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Youngstown State University.\u00a0 In 1971 she received her M.B.A. Degree in Marketing from the University of Akron.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>From 1971 \u2013 1973, Trudy served as a part-time instructor at Kent State University \u2013 Trumbull Campus, Warren, OH.\u00a0 In 1974 she was hired as an Assistant Professor of Business Technology\/Business Administration at Alfred State College, retiring in 1990 as an Associate Professor Emeritus with Alfred \/ Business Administration.\u00a0 For many years, Trudy owned &amp; operated Butera Business Services, specializing in marketing, communications &amp; management services.\u00a0 For the past 31 years, she also served as a marketing representative for Bon Chance, LTD of Depew, NY and for the past 4 years served as a sales consultant for National Business Promotions, Inc of Albany, NY.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trudy was a member of both St. Jude Chapel of Alfred and St. Brendan\u2019s Church of Almond.\u00a0 She was an Honorary Trustee and served as Chairman of the United University Professions Development Committee while affiliated with SUNY Alfred.\u00a0 Trudy played an instrumental role in the fund raising efforts of the UUP &#8220;Donor Wall of Hope.&#8221;\u00a0 She also received the UUP Eugene P. Link Award for Outstanding Devotion and Service to the Cause of Unionism in Higher Education.\u00a0 Upon retirement from SUNY Alfred in 1990, she remained active in the academic union, serving on its Statewide Legislation Committee.\u00a0 In 1996 she received the Nina Mitchell Award for Distinguished Service in recognition of her efforts on behalf of United University Professions.\u00a0 She was also a member of the Allegany County Women\u2019s Republican Group and was recently awarded the \u201c2013 Ronald Reagan Award\u201d by the Allegany County Republican Committee.\u00a0 For several years, Trudy served as a membe of the Allegany County Planning Board.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by her sister, Evangeline \u201cBabe\u201d Butera.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are\u00a0several cousins, including Rita Michalak of New Waterford, OH;\u00a0along with many friends in the Hornell and Allegany County communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At Trudy\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Brendan\u2019s Church of Almond, NY.\u00a0 Burial will be in Mt.
