Weyand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Janice J. \u201cJan\u201d Weyand of 427 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell died unexpectedly on Thursday (November 28, 2013) at her home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born in Greenwood on February 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Kenneth &amp; Meriam (Krusen) Spencer and the step-daughter of Osmer Margeson.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Janice grew up in the Canisteo, Greenwood &amp; Jasper areas and was a graduate of Jasper Central School (class of 1952).\u00a0 She later graduated from Erie County Technical Institute which later became Buffalo State College where she obtained her dental hygienist license.\u00a0 For several years, Jan was employed as a dental hygienist for the Canisteo Central School.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and later St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 She had been a member of Ladies of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters of America.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jan had been a member of the St. James Women\u2019s Auxiliary and for many years volunteered her time by working in the gift shop of McAuley Manor.\u00a0 She was an active member of the Hornell Red Cross where she volunteered her time by working at the American Red Cross Blood Bank.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Throughout her lifetime, Jan stayed active in many community affairs by serving on the board of directors of several organizations, including the American Red Cross, Hornell Housing Authority, the Hornell YMCA and Maple City Savings Bank.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Janice was married on February 15, 1958, to Ernst H. \u201cErnie\u201d Weyand who died in 1992.\u00a0 She was also predeceased by a step-sister, Eloise Holt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth \u201cLiz\u201d (James) Martin of Minneapolis, MN; 2 sons, Ernst H. \u201cErnie\u201d (Joanna) Weyand, III of Boise, ID and Dr. John (Kimberly) Weyand of Hornell; 9 grandchildren, Katherine Martin, John \u201cJack\u201d Martin, Abigail Martin, Samuel Martin, Victoria Weyand, Emily Weyand, Shawn Hillman, Jacob Weyand &amp; Spencer Weyand; her step-sister, Betty Flanagan of Hornell; several cousins, nieces &amp; nephews.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The family of Janice J. \u201cJan\u201d Weyand will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM \u2013 7:00 PM at the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. <\/strong>\u00a0A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jan\u2019s family request that Memorial Contributions in her name be made to either the Hornell YMCA, 18 Center St., Hornell, NY or the American Red Cross, 24 Maple St., Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Janice J. \u201cJan\u201d Weyand of 427 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell died unexpectedly on Thursday (November 28, 2013) at her home.\u00a0 Born in Greenwood on February 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Kenneth &amp; Meriam (Krusen) Spencer and the step-daughter of Osmer Margeson.\u00a0 Janice grew up in the Canisteo, Greenwood &amp; Jasper areas and was [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1461","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-obituaries"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1461","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1461"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1461\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1464,"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1461\/revisions\/1464"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1461"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1461"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1461"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
