Coots \u2013 36 \u2013 of 53 Hartshorn St., Hornell, died unexpectedly on Thursday (February 27, 2014) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.<\/p>\n<p>Darryl was born in Hornell on June 1, 1977.\u00a0 He grew up in Addison, NY area and later in Rushville, NY where he attended Marcus Whitman High School.\u00a0 He was a veteran of the US Army, serving his country from 1996 &#8211; 2000 and stationed for a time in Korea.\u00a0 Darryl was a member of the Addison American Legion Post 730.<\/p>\n<p>Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, Darryl moved to Hornell and was employed as an auto technician at Wilkins RV and later as a technician and driver for Covered Wagon.\u00a0 For the past four years, he was employed as a mechanic for New York State Electric &amp; Gas (NYSEG), working out of Hornell.\u00a0 He served as vice union chair of Local 83 IBEW.<\/p>\n<p>Darryl enjoyed hunting, fishing, go cart racing and was an avid bowler and gun collector.\u00a0 He also loved working on and restoring cars &amp; trucks and lending a helping hand to his friends while they worked on their cars &amp; trucks.\u00a0 He served as a coach for the Hornell Youth (Flag) Football League and also coached Hornell Little League.\u00a0 He was also a former player for the Hornell Dragons Football Team.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his daughter, Savanna Rose (Dugo) Coots who died December 19, 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his fianc\u00e9, Alicia Dugo of Hornell; his parents, Daniel (Deborah) Coots of Rushville and Dyenne (Doc) Perkins of Addison, NY; 3 children, Dylan Coots, Clayton Coots and Miranda Garner; 2 sisters, Danielle (Patrick) Rutherford of Farmington, NY and Denise (Mitch Dudley) Coots of Addison; his maternal grandmother, Mary Gliewe of Bloomfield, NY; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Darryl W. Coots will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 PM \u2013 7:00 PM and on Wednesday from 11:00 AM \u2013 1:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where a Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at<br \/>\n1:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Darryl\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the Addison American Legion Post 730, 85 Maple St., Addison, NY 14801.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Darryl-Coots.pdf\">click here <\/a>to print a form.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Darryl\u2019s service to his country, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Darryl W.
