McKibben \u2013 84 \u2013 formerly of Hornell, died Monday evening (April 14, 2014) at the Center for Extended Care Amherst (CECA) Nursing Facility in Amherst, MA, where she has resided for the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Andover, NY on October 13, 1929, she was the daughter of Orla &amp; Margaret (Wilcox) Baker.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne grew up in Andover and attended Andover High School.\u00a0 She resided in Hornell for most of her adult life and was a former member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church.\u00a0 She was an avid New York Mets fan and loved rooting for the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She enjoyed baking, dancing and simply having a good time along with \u201choisting a few\u201d with her many friends.\u00a0 But, more than anything else, she loved the time that she spent with her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>She was married in 1974 to Elwin \u201cHud\u201d McKibben who died September 16, 2011.\u00a0 Joann was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Coates; her grandson, Jason Coates; 2 brothers, Donald Baker and Robert Baker.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 5 sons, Don (Pam) Coates of Olcott, NY, Rick (Donna) Coates of Syracuse, John (Debbie) Coates of Hornell, Andy Coates of Hornell and Jim (Jessie) Coates of North Carolina;<br \/>\n2 daughters, Patty (Bob) Carlin of Hornell and Penny (Sue) Coates of Belchertown, MA; step daughters, Dorothy (Joe) Smyder of Tyrone, PA, Jackie (Bob) Widmer of Arkport and Linda (Doug) Johnson of Marion, NC; 1 step son, Joel \u201cButch\u201d (Chris Schirmer) McKibben of North Bishop Valley, NY; 1 sister, Mary Faber of Florida; 34 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren,\u00a0nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Joann E. McKibben will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 PM \u2013 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where funeral &amp; committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 6:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne\u2019s family request that Memorial Contributions in her name be made to American Alzheimer\u2019s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joann E.
