{"id":1764,"date":"2014-07-25T17:33:34","date_gmt":"2014-07-25T17:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1764"},"modified":"2014-07-26T17:20:18","modified_gmt":"2014-07-26T17:20:18","slug":"ethel-loh-strickarz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=1764","title":{"rendered":"Ethel Loh Strickarz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1765\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1765\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1765\" title=\"Ethel Strickarz Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Ethel-Strickarz-Photo-200x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Ethel-Strickarz-Photo-200x228.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Ethel-Strickarz-Photo-250x286.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Ethel-Strickarz-Photo.jpg 437w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Ethel Loh Strickarz \u2013 64 \u2013 of 880 North Almond Valley Rd, Arkport, NY (Town of Almond), also of Bradford, NY transitioned from this life on Wednesday afternoon (July 23, 2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in New York City on November 7, 1949, she was the beloved daughter of Huan Swee &amp; Nelly (Liu) Loh.<\/p>\n<p>Ethel grew up in Forest Hills, Queens NYC and was a graduate of Forest Hills High School class of 1965.\u00a0 She was a graduate of Monroe Community College in Rochester and later attended the University of Buffalo and worked in the Human Services Health Field for the majority of her life.<\/p>\n<p>Ethel began working for Arc of Steuben in February, 1981 and was very instrumental in helping Arc of Steuben grow into what it is today.\u00a0 She was employed there for 29 years and retired from Arc in August, 2013 due to ill health.\u00a0 At the time of her retirement she held the position of Director of Development. She found love, joy and satisfaction in helping those who were developmentally disabled and less fortunate<\/p>\n<p>She was an extremely artistic and talented person who expressed her creativity through doll making, painting, poetry and jewelry design.\u00a0 She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, spending time with her family and being outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>She was preceded in death by her father, Huan Swee Loh who died in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>She was married on October 28, 1979 (34 \u00bd years) to David Strickarz who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are her son, Daemian Friedman of Springwater, NY; her mother, Nelly Loh of Arkport; 1 brother, Raymond Loh of Canisteo; 1 sister, Eileen (Leon) Loh-Fontier of Dresden, NY; 1 granddaughter, Katie (Sean) FitzPatrick; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Ethel\u2019s request there will be no prior calling hours.\u00a0 Her wish was to be cremated and, at a scheduled time to be announced, provide an opportunity for family members and close friends to celebrate her life.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Ethel\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to Arc of Steuben, 1 ARC Way, Bath, NY 14810 or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Ethel-Strickarz.pdf\">click here<\/a> to print a form.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethel Loh Strickarz \u2013 64 \u2013 of 880 North Almond Valley Rd, Arkport, NY (Town of Almond), also of Bradford, NY transitioned from this life on Wednesday afternoon (July 23, 2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.
