Persing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=1855\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1855\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1855\" title=\"Ron Persing Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ron-Persing-Photo-200x255.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ron-Persing-Photo-200x255.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ron-Persing-Photo-250x319.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ron-Persing-Photo.jpg 629w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Ronald M. \u201cRon\u201d\u00a0 Persing \u2013 82 \u2013 of Elma, NY, formerly of Hornell, died October 2, 2014 following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on August 7, 1932, he was the son of Marshall &amp; Lucy (Yannone) Persing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ron grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1950).\u00a0 Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.\u00a0 After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the US Army, Ron attended the University of Illinois.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was employed as a Diesel Electric Fireman for the former Erie Railroad and later as an Engineer for the Erie Railroad, Erie Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail, retiring in 1999 after 43 years of service.\u00a0 He has resided in the Elma\/Buffalo area for the past 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>While living in Hornell, Ron was a communicant of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church.\u00a0 He enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of the Twin Hickory Golf Club.\u00a0 He was an avid antique collector and especially enjoyed collecting cut glass &amp; bean bottles.\u00a0 For a few years he enjoyed flying single engine airplanes.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ron was married in 1960 to the former Lucille Plank who died in 1973.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by his brother, Philip Persing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 2 daughters, Mary Susan Kelley (Dale VerVoort) of Appleton, WI and Jennifer (Charles) Raptis of Murrells Inlet, SC; 2 sons, Stephen (Susan Krzyiewski) Persing of Myrtle Beach, SC and Michael Persing of Elma, NY; 1 brother, David (Carol) Persing of Avon, OH; 9 grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Ron\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Family &amp; friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 1:30 PM at St. Ann\u2019s Church.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ronald M. \u201cRon\u201d\u00a0 Persing \u2013 82 \u2013 of Elma, NY, formerly of Hornell, died October 2, 2014 following a long illness.
