Hoeffner \u2013 (87) \u2013 of 6 Oak Hill St., Arkport, died early Saturday morning (March 14, 2015) at McAuley Manor, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Floral Park, Long Island on February 22, 1928, he was the son of Phillip &amp; Theresa (Wulforst) Hoeffner.<\/p>\n<p>George has resided in the Arkport &#8211; Fremont area since the age of 13.\u00a0 He was a graduate of Arkport Central School (class of 1946).\u00a0 George was a lifelong potato farmer operating (along with his brothers) Hoeffner Brothers Farms in Fremont, NY and also in Eastville, VA.\u00a0\u00a0 In his retirement years, George was affectionately known as \u201cThe Corn Man\u201d, for operating a roadside stand on the Almond Road for his brother.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 George was a deeply religious man who recited the rosary several times every day; said his daily prayers; and watched daily Mass on television.<\/p>\n<p>George was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.\u00a0 He loved working on jig-saw puzzles and crossword puzzles.\u00a0 He also loved working outside and was meticulous about tending to his lawn &amp; shrubberies.<\/p>\n<p>He was married on November 7, 1953 to the former Lorraine Howe who died in 1989.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Philip Hoeffner and Robert Hoeffner; 3 sisters, Irene Briggs, Marion \u201cDolly\u201d Dorfer and Theresa Hoeffner.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 3 daughters, Roxanne (John) Andrews of Saratoga Springs, NY, Patty (Joseph) Damrath of Hornell and Theresa (Richard) Persichilli of Arkport; 3 sisters,\u00a0 Helen Burke of Hornell, Emma Potter of Moore, OK and Josephine \u201cSis\u201d Donahue of Rochester; 1 brother, Thomas (Ann) Hoeffner of Hornell; 5 grandchildren, Benjamin Andrews, Jonathon Andrews, Caitlin (Marty) DiPetta, Colleen Damrath and John Damrath; 1 great-granddaughter, Gracie Anna DiPetta; many nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>From George\u2019s daughters, Roxanne, Patty &amp; Theresa:\u00a0 Dad spent countless hours putting puzzles together for his family &amp; friends.\u00a0 These family members and friends were a part of a puzzle that made up dad\u2019s life.\u00a0 You may never know where you fit in, but always remember that dad\u2019s life would not have been complete without you!!<\/p>\n<p>The family of George J. Hoeffner will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 PM\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>George\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to St. Ann\u2019s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/George-Hoeffner.pdf\">click here<\/a> to print a form.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>George J.
