{"id":2175,"date":"2015-09-08T11:19:46","date_gmt":"2015-09-08T11:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=2175"},"modified":"2015-09-09T18:25:55","modified_gmt":"2015-09-09T18:25:55","slug":"delorne-rick-martin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=2175","title":{"rendered":"DeLorne &#8220;Rick&#8221; Martin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=2181\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2181\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2181\" title=\"DeLorne Martin\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DeLorne-Martin2-200x246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DeLorne-Martin2-200x246.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DeLorne-Martin2-250x307.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/DeLorne-Martin2.jpg 809w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>DeLorne R. \u201cRick\u201d Martin \u2013 68 \u2013 of 321 Erie Ave., Almond, NY, died Saturday evening (September 5, 2015) at Ira Davenport Hospital following a brief illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on March 4, 1947, he was the son of Ralph &amp; Mary (Vosburg) Martin.<\/p>\n<p>Rick, who was also affectionately known as \u201cDR\u201d, grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class if 1965).\u00a0 While in high school, he was a member of the Red Raider Football Team and also the HHS Track Team.<\/p>\n<p>Following his high school graduation, Rick enlisted in the US Navy.\u00a0 While in the Navy, he served three tours of duty in Vietnam.\u00a0 As a \u201cHelicopter Door Gunner\u201d, Rick\u2019s job entailed retrieving wounded soldiers from the battle field via helicopter.\u00a0 He received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts after twice being wounded while performing his duties.\u00a0 He was honorably discharged in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the years, Rick had been employed as an electrician for several railroad car refurbishing companies, including Morrison-Knudson (MK), Transportation &amp; Transit Associates (TTA), Alstom Transportation and Siemens Transportation. He retired 6 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Rick had been a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 He was a life member of the Hornell VFW and a former member of the Hornell American Legion.\u00a0 Rick enjoyed collecting model trains; was a baseball card collector; enjoyed hunting and in his younger years enjoyed fishing.<\/p>\n<p>He was married on December 3, 1976 to the former Gail Lena Bowles who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are 3 sons, DeLorne \u201cRicky\u201d (Wendy) Martin of Fremont, Richard Noyes of Hornell and Christopher Martin of Hornell; 1 sister, Lorna (Sam) Palmiter of Chester VA; 1 brother, Bill (Beverly) Raub of Friendship, NY; his brother-in-law, Larry (Suzanne) Bowles of Westminster, MD; 10 grandchildren, Cheyenne McCormck, Matthew Martin, Tiffany Martin, Ashley Baltimore, Richard Noyes JR, Brandon Noyes, Brittany Noyes, Chris Martin, Benjamin Brown and Brenden Martin; several great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephew.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The family of DeLorne R. \u201cRick\u201d Martin will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 2:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where a Memorial Service with full Military Honors will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 Final interment will be in the Bath National Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>In Recognition of Rick\u2019s military service, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DeLorne R. \u201cRick\u201d Martin \u2013 68 \u2013 of 321 Erie Ave., Almond, NY, died Saturday evening (September 5, 2015) at Ira Davenport Hospital following a brief illness.
