{"id":2261,"date":"2016-01-11T14:42:53","date_gmt":"2016-01-11T14:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=2261"},"modified":"2016-01-14T19:54:02","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T19:54:02","slug":"marilyn-molly-holmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=2261","title":{"rendered":"Marilyn &#8220;Molly&#8221; Holmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=2262\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2262\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2262\" title=\"Marilyn Holmes Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marilyn-Holmes-Photo-200x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marilyn-Holmes-Photo-200x231.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marilyn-Holmes-Photo-250x289.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marilyn-Holmes-Photo.jpg 744w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Marilyn T. \u201cMolly\u201d Holmes &#8211; 88 &#8211; a resident at Hornell Gardens died Sunday morning (January 10, 2016) at St. James Mercy Hospital where she was taken by Hornell City Ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on May 19, 1927, she was the daughter of John and Lila (Burrows) Ahearn.<\/p>\n<p>Molly grew up in Hornell, NY and was a graduate of Hornell High School (Class of 1945).\u00a0 During her adult years, Molly lived in different areas of New York, including Rochester, Holcomb, and Webster before moving back to Hornell in 1992.\u00a0 After graduating from Hornell High School she worked for Cards Drug Store for a couple of years.\u00a0 She was employed by Stromberg-Carlson, a telecommunications equipment and electronics manufacturing company in Rochester, NY.\u00a0 She later became a mail carrier for twenty-one years with the United States Postal Service.\u00a0 After retiring from the USPS in 1989, Molly worked at the Twentieth Century Club Library in Almond, NY for about seven years.<\/p>\n<p>Molly was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 In her youth, she attended St. Ignatius Church.<\/p>\n<p>Being part Iroquois, Molly was an avid collector of Native American Indian artifacts.\u00a0 She was a member of the Iroquois Studies Association and a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.\u00a0 Molly had a love of reading, and she was an exceptional gardener \u2013 flowers were her passion!\u00a0 An organization near and dear to Molly\u2019s heart was the St. Jude Children\u2019s Research Hospital.\u00a0 The monthly donations she had been making for decades aided in the research of life-threatening diseases and the treatment of children.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her parents, Molly was preceded in death by four brothers, John \u201cJack\u201d Ahearn, James Ahearn, Joseph Ahearn, and William Ahearn; one sister, Bette (Moss) VanHassent.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are her brothers, Gerard \u201cJerry\u201d Ahearn of Genoa, NY and Michael Ahearn (Lee Lysyczyn)\u00a0 of Painted Post, NY; several nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Marilyn T. \u201cMolly\u201d Holmes will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church Street, Hornell, NY where a Memorial Service will be celebrated at the conclusion of calling hours at 6:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 Final interment will be in St. Ann\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Molly\u2019s family requests that memorial contributions in her name be made to the St. Jude Children\u2019s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Hornell Animal Shelter, 7694 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Marilyn-Holmes.pdf\">click here<\/a> to print a memorial form.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marilyn T. \u201cMolly\u201d Holmes &#8211; 88 &#8211; a resident at Hornell Gardens died Sunday morning (January 10, 2016) at St. James Mercy Hospital where she was taken by Hornell City Ambulance.
