He had been employed as an accountant at the Erie Accounting Bureau for over 20 years, retiring in 1968.<\/p>\n<p>At the tender age of 40, Dick decided to continue his education, enrolling at Alfred University, majoring in Art. Following graduation, he continued his post-graduate work at Alfred, earning his teaching degree.<\/p>\n<p>Dick was employed as administrator for the Hornell Area Arts Council for 2 years and also served as a substitute school teacher for several years.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church. He was a former member of the Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy), Hornell Lions Club, Hornell Association, Knights of Columbus and Hornell Moose Lodge. Dick possessed a genuine love of music and was the author of many songs. He was an avid glass collector, gardener and enjoyed painting.<\/p>\n<p>Dick was married in 1972 to the former Josephine Trentanelli who died February 16, 2005. He was also preceded in death by 7 brothers &amp; sisters.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins &amp; in-laws.<\/p>\n<p>At Dick\u2019s request, there will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday 10:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church. Burial will be in St. Ann\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Dick\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, family &amp; friends remember him by having Masses celebrated in his name at St. Ann\u2019s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard J. \u201cDick\u201d Schieder \u2013 (90) \u2013 of 79 Genesee St., Hornell, died Sunday morning (May 8, 2016) at his home following a long illness.
