Burdick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-274\" title=\"Art Burdick\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Art-Burdick-200x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Art-Burdick-200x219.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Art-Burdick-500x548.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Art-Burdick-1024x1123.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Art-Burdick.jpg 1836w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Arthur J. \u201cArt\u201d Burdick \u2013 65 \u2013 of 4 Tenth St., Canisteo, died Tuesday morning (August 31, 2010) at his home, following a brief illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on April 13, 1945, he was the son of Arthur &amp; Teresa (Sullivan) Burdick.<\/p>\n<p>Art was a lifelong resident of the Hornell \u2013 Canisteo area and was a graduate of Canisteo Central School (class of 1963).\u00a0 He was a graduate of SUNY Brockport where he earned his teaching degree and BA Degree in Science. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He was employed as a 6th grade teacher at the Hornell Intermediate School for 33 years, retiring on July 1st, 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Art always had a love for his community and from 1985-1991 he served as a trustee for the Village of Canisteo.\u00a0 He later served two terms as Mayor of Canisteo (1991-1995 and from 1997-2002).<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of the Hornell Moose Club and a member of the Hornell Elks Lodge #364 where he served as head steward for 8 years.\u00a0 He was also one of the original members of the Hornell Association where he served as a member of the board of directors for 2 years.\u00a0 He had also been a communicant of St. Joachim\u2019s Church of Canisteo.<\/p>\n<p>Artie was an avid golfer where he enjoyed playing in the Tribune League and Moose Tournaments.\u00a0 For many years he played softball for the Hornell Moose team and bowled in the Monday Night League for the Canisteo Zenith Team.<\/p>\n<p>Always ready with a good joke or funny story, Art will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, love of all people, and his compassion for all human beings.\u00a0 He enjoyed \u201choisting a few\u201d with his many friends and was a founding member of the \u201cNew Yorker Club\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur &amp; Teresa Burdick.<\/p>\n<p>Art was married on June 10, 1967 to the former Amy Hallett who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are 2 daughters, Lisa Combs of Canisteo and Kari Burdick of Canisteo; 1 son Scott (Andrea) Burdick of Belle Haven; 1 brother, Henry (Judy) Burdick of Macedon; 1sister, Ellen (Eric) Darrow of Clifton Park, NY; 7 grandchildren, Matthew Holley, Michael (Devon Dray) Holley, Michelle Holley, Evan Holley, Hailey Schwartz, Alaina Burdick, and Kylan Burdick; 1 great-granddaughter, Samantha Holley; nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Art\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at<br \/>\nSt. Ann\u2019s Church with Rev.
