Winzer \u2013 (92) \u2013 lifelong Hornell resident, died Sunday morning (April 22, 2018) at Elderwood of Hornell where she had resided for the past six months.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on November 3, 1925 she was the daughter of Kenneth &amp; Gertrude (Cozy) Winzer and the step-daughter of William Eller.<\/p>\n<p>Helen was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1944).\u00a0 She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.<\/p>\n<p>She had been employed for a time at the former McBride\u2019s Women &amp; Children\u2019s Shop in Hornell.\u00a0 For 26 years she served as the \u201clifestyles editor\u201d at the Hornell Evening Tribune.\u00a0 She was responsible for the writing of engagement &amp; wedding announcements, as well as obituary notices.\u00a0 Other duties had included editing responsibilities for the social pages of The Hornell Spectator and the compilation of the local columns such as Friends &amp; Neighbors, which spotlighted area residents in the news.<\/p>\n<p>She was preceded in death by her lifelong companion, Sylvester \u201cBabe\u201d Daniels who died in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are several cousins, including Lois Bardeen Miller of Rochester, Betty Slingluff of Meadville, PA, Kay Roberts of Meadville, PA, and Nancy Premo of Rochester.\u00a0 Also surviving are her \u201cHornell Family,\u201d Lenny &amp; Kathy Caruso and Joann LaVerde.<\/p>\n<p>At Helen\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Helen\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Ann\u2019s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY\u00a0 \u00a014843.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Helen L.
