{"id":344,"date":"2011-01-01T00:06:01","date_gmt":"2011-01-01T00:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=344"},"modified":"2011-03-19T14:02:58","modified_gmt":"2011-03-19T14:02:58","slug":"angela-wheeler-caldwell-1931-2010-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=344","title":{"rendered":"Angela Wheeler-Caldwell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-345\" title=\"Angela Caldwell\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/acaldwell-200x248.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/acaldwell-200x248.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/acaldwell-500x621.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/acaldwell-1024x1272.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/acaldwell.jpg 1984w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Angela \u201cAngie\u201d Wheeler-Caldwell \u2013 78 \u2013 of 9 East Ave., Arkport, died Tuesday afternoon (November 30, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on December 24, 1931, she was the daughter of Nicholas &amp; Mamie (Vegard) Sciotti.<\/p>\n<p>Angie spent her early years in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann\u2019s School.\u00a0 Her family moved to Arkport during her teenage years and she was a graduate of Arkport Central School (class of 1949).<\/p>\n<p>While in high school, Angie worked at the Arkport Inn, a local restaurant owned &amp; operated by her parents.\u00a0 She was also employed at the former Argentieri\u2019s Meat Market.\u00a0 During the construction of Route 17, she was employed as an accounting clerk for several of the construction companies, including Brown Engineers, S.J. Groves &amp; Sons and Cold Spring Construction.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Angie resided in Dallas, TX for about 5 years where she was employed in the accounting department of IBM Corporation.\u00a0 She transferred to Rochester, NY and continued working for IBM for about 6 more years.\u00a0 She retired in the late 1990\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church where she volunteered her time cleaning the church.\u00a0 She was a member of the Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy) and an active member of the Beato Angelo Society.\u00a0 After a 30 year hiatus, Angie re-organized the Beato Angelo Society and was instrumental in the organization of a pilgrimage to Furci, Italy &#8212; the \u201cSister City\u201d of the Beato Angelo Society.<\/p>\n<p>It would be an understatement to say that Angie was very active in Republican politics.\u00a0 She was a member and past president of the Republican Woman\u2019s Club and served many years as Councilwoman for the Town of Hornellsville.\u00a0 Angie served as Headquarter Chairman in Hornell for the George W. Bush Presidential Election Campaign and was a past recipient of Steuben County Republican of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>Although Angie had many interests, including being an avid New York Yankee fan, her true joy in life was her commitment to her family &#8212; especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter.\u00a0 She will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.<\/p>\n<p>She was married on March 31, 1951 to Ernie Wheeler who died in 1979.\u00a0 She later married Bill Caldwell who died in 2001.\u00a0 She was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Patricia Wheeler who died in 1952 and Barbara Wheeler who died in 1979; 1 brother, Nicholas Sciotti, JR who died in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are her daughter, Christine (Thomas) Lee of Arkport; her son, Ernie (Karen) Wheeler, JR of Farmington, NY; 2 sisters, Ann Marie (Toddy) Whitman of Arkport and Lucy (Robert) Alger of Arkport; 5 grandchildren, Michael Lee, Connor Lee, Jennifer Wheeler-Gathman, Courtney Wheeler and Steven Wheeler; 2 step-sons, Robert Caldwell and John Caldwell; son-in-law, Mark (Lorraine) Schneider; 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Sciotti and Jean Weirick; several nieces, nephews &amp; cousins.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Angela \u201cAngie\u201d Wheeler\u2013Caldwell will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Angie\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to either St. Jude Children\u2019s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Department 300, Memphis, TN 38148 or Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830 or Faith in Action, 20 Broadway Mall, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial envelopes will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Angela \u201cAngie\u201d Wheeler-Caldwell \u2013 78 \u2013 of 9 East Ave., Arkport, died Tuesday afternoon (November 30, 2010) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.
