Coogan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3917\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Fred-Coogan-Photo-1-200x277.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Fred-Coogan-Photo-1-200x277.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Fred-Coogan-Photo-1-250x346.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Fred-Coogan-Photo-1.jpg 416w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Frederick W. \u201cFred\u201d Coogan \u2013 63 \u2013 of 6608 Beecher Road, Hornell, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning (August 21, 2019) at his home.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on September 28, 1955, he was the son of Ralph &amp; Pearl (Clark) Coogan.<\/p>\n<p>Fred grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1973).<\/p>\n<p>A resident of the Hornell area for most of his life, he owned and operated Fred Coogan Demolition &amp; Construction.\u00a0 He was an expert in explosives and was licensed to demolish buildings with the use of dynamite.\u00a0 During his career, Fred was responsible for demolishing the Hornell Universalist Church on Church Street along with demolishing many homes and buildings, clearing the way for the St. James Mercy Hospital Expansion Project in the early 1990\u2019s.\u00a0 He was also a talented carpenter who built and remodeled many homes in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Fred was raised Catholic and had been a member of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 He loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed spending time with friends boating &amp; skiing on Conesus Lake.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his fianc\u00e9, Diane Edwards; his brother, Ralph James \u201cJim\u201d (Judy) Coogan of Conesus Lake; his sister, Teresa Jaycox of Almond; his nieces &amp; nephews, Andrea Carty, Jamie Scalise, Tammy Hurlburt, Toni Boglev &amp; Justin Jaycox; Diane\u2019s children, Elaine Melkioty, Kristina Rischar, Megan Melkioty, Daniel Edwards &amp; David Edwards; along with several cousins.<\/p>\n<p>A special \u201cThank You\u201d to his cousins Joseph, Brenda, Sherri, and Jacqueline who meant so much to him.<\/p>\n<p>At Fred\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fred\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY\u00a0 13790 in honor of his mother Pearl Coogan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Frederick W. \u201cFred\u201d Coogan \u2013 63 \u2013 of 6608 Beecher Road, Hornell, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning (August 21, 2019) at his home.
