{"id":3939,"date":"2019-09-15T20:49:08","date_gmt":"2019-09-15T20:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=3939"},"modified":"2019-09-21T16:08:13","modified_gmt":"2019-09-21T16:08:13","slug":"kenneth-desilva","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=3939","title":{"rendered":"Kenneth DeSilva"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3943\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Kenneth-DeSilva-Photo-200x315.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Kenneth-DeSilva-Photo-200x315.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Kenneth-DeSilva-Photo-250x393.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Kenneth-DeSilva-Photo.jpg 568w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Kenneth DeSilva \u2013 (79) \u2013 of 7323 County Route 70A (Big Creek Road), Hornell, died early Sunday morning (September 15, 2019) at The Homestead at Soldiers &amp; Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan, NY following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Margaretville, NY on September 19, 1939, he was the son of Frank &amp; Eleanor (Cole) DeSilva.<\/p>\n<p>Ken grew up in Margaretville, NY (located in the Catskills) and attended Margaretville Central School.\u00a0 He later earned his General Education Diploma (GED) by taking classes in Binghamton, NY.<\/p>\n<p>For many years, Ken resided in Walton, NY and on September 13, 1958 married the former Joan LaPorte.\u00a0 Together they raised their four children, David, Karson, Gordon &amp; Dean.\u00a0 While living in Walton, Ken was employed at Del-Met Corporation and also owned &amp; operated Montgomery-Ward Store.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the years, Ken also resided in Binghamton where he was employed at Stowe Manufacturing and also lived in Elmira Heights where he worked at Upstate Tool Company.\u00a0 He later resided in Corning where he owned &amp; operated a Woodmizer Saw business.\u00a0 He has resided in the Hornell area since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>He was baptized and attended Buena Vista Wesleyan Church.<\/p>\n<p>Ken was a true outdoorsman and an avid hunter.\u00a0 He enjoyed fishing and hunting big game, such as elk, moose, deer, bear and caribou.\u00a0 He has hunted in many locations, including Montana &amp; Quebec Canada.\u00a0 Throughout the years, Ken took great pride working on &amp; maintaining his properties and had even built his own pond on Brown Hollow Road in Corning.\u00a0 In his \u201cspare time\u201d, Ken enjoyed watching football.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donald DeSilva and Robert DeSilva; 1 sister, Marilyn DeSilva.<\/p>\n<p>Ken was married on September 19, 2009 to the former Denise Collins who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, David (Mary Kaye) DeSilva of Howard, NY, Gordon (Kelly) DeSilva of Vallejo, CA and Dean (Jill) DeSilva of Deer Lodge, MT; 1 daughter, Karson James of Walton, NY; 1 brother, Ronald DeSilva of Margaretville, NY; 2 step-sons, Jared (Shannon) Billings of Wellsville and Tyler Billings of Hornell; 16 grandchildren, Matthew (Tanya) DeSilva, Zach DeSilva, Steven DeSilva, Mannon (Jordi) Loucks, Rachel James, Orrin James, Tyrell (Dacy) Deserve, Levi DeSilva, Joshua DeSilva, Logan DeSilva, Hannah DeSilva, Allison DeSilva, Lindsey (Jerell) Andall, Jamie Morgan, Jackie Morgan and Lonie Morgan; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Ken\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Family &amp; friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11:30 AM with a luncheon to follow.\u00a0 Pastor Dan Pickering will officiate.
