George \u2013 83 \u2013 of 313 Arlington Pl., Hornell, died early Friday morning (January 10, 2020) at his home, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Troupsburg, NY on July 2, 1936 and was the son of Vincent &amp; Etta (Hurlbert) George.<\/p>\n<p>John grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School.\u00a0 He was a Veteran of the US Air Force, serving his country from 1961 &#8211; 1963.\u00a0 While in the Air Force, John had been stationed in Louisiana and also Japan.<\/p>\n<p>A resident of Rush, NY for over 20 years, John had been employed as a truck driver for several companies in the Rochester area, including Zweigles Corporation and also Manson News.\u00a0 Returning to the Hornell area about 20 years ago, John had been a member of the Hornell American Legion and the Hornell Moose Lodge.<\/p>\n<p>John had a deep affection for animals and all wildlife.\u00a0 He enjoyed building birdhouses and also feeding the birds, squirrels and other wildlife.\u00a0 He will be sadly missed by his beloved \u201ccanine companions\u201d, Benji &amp; Gracie.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Loretta Alexander, Mary DiCosimo &amp; Marjorie Damrath; 3 brothers, James \u201cJimmy\u201d George, Frank George &amp; Victor George.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include the \u201cLove of His Life\u201d, the former Janet Lyke; 1 son, Richard (Susan) Stanton of Prattsburg, NY; 5 daughters, Lorie (Paul) Mosbacher of Wayland, Elaine (Michael) Hicks of Valoise, NY, Susan L. Stanton of Honeoye Falls, NY, Michelle (Jeff) Wrightman of Kentucky and Shirley Bottomley of Hornell; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At John\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY<\/strong> with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 Final interment will be in the Bath National Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>John\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of John\u2019s service to his country as a member of the US Air Force, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John T.
