{"id":4262,"date":"2020-04-13T15:03:58","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T15:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=4262"},"modified":"2020-04-15T15:02:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T15:02:00","slug":"mary-lou-durso","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=4262","title":{"rendered":"Mary Lou Durso"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4268\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Durso-Photo-3-200x250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Durso-Photo-3-200x250.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Durso-Photo-3-250x313.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Durso-Photo-3.jpg 668w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Mary Lou Durso \u2013 83 \u2013 formerly of Elmwood Ave., North Hornell, died early Monday morning (April 13, 2020) at Hornell Gardens where she had resided for the past 3 \u00bd years.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Catawissa, PA on May 14, 1936, she was the daughter of George &amp; Dorothy (Shultz) Walters.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Lou grew up in Bloomsburg, PA and was a graduate of Bloomsburg High School (class of 1954).<\/p>\n<p>She was married on December 5, 1954 to Michael J. \u201cMike\u201d Durso.\u00a0 Mary Lou was a \u201cStay-At-Home Mom\u201d for many years while she raised her five children.\u00a0 During this time, she was \u201cthe leader\u201d for Weight Watcher inspiring others.\u00a0 It was not until her children were grown that she entered the workforce.\u00a0 She was employed as a library aide for the Hornell City School District and later as office manager for Steuben Educators.\u00a0 For many years she managed the St. James Mercy Hospital Aquinas Gift Shop and volunteered for the Hornell American Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Lou was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 Through the years she enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. \u201cMike\u201d Durso who died April 12, 2005; her daughter, Kathleen M. \u201cKathy\u201d Durso who died July 27, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 2 sons, Michael (RoseMary) Durso Jr. of Half Moon Bay, CA and Stephen (Susette) Durso of Carpinteria, CA; 2 daughters, Cindy (Rick) Hasler of Dayton, OH and Chrissy (Doug) Taggert of North Hornell; 8 grandchildren, Joe (Melissa) Durso, Jim (Bree) Durso, Alexis Durso, Jennifer (Chris) Pawelski, Lindsay Hasler, Matthew (Kristen) Taggert, Melissa (Chris) Squeglia and Lisa (Josh) Nichols; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mary Lou\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hornell YMCA or Hornell Alumna Association.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mary Lou Durso \u2013 83 \u2013 formerly of Elmwood Ave., North Hornell, died early Monday morning (April 13, 2020) at Hornell Gardens where she had resided for the past 3 \u00bd years.
