Gambino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4379\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Matthew-Gambino-Photo-200x295.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Matthew-Gambino-Photo-200x295.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Matthew-Gambino-Photo-250x369.jpeg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Matthew-Gambino-Photo.jpeg 417w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Matthew P. \u201cMatt\u201d Gambino \u2013 (90) \u2013 of 56 Sawyer St., Hornell, died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning (May 17, 2020).<\/p>\n<p>Born in Borgetto, Sicily on November 16, 1929, he was the son of Natale &amp; Francesca (Camachi) Gambino.<\/p>\n<p>Matt\u2019s family moved to the United States when he was seven years old and settled in the Hornell area.\u00a0 He was a graduate of St. Ann\u2019s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1949).\u00a0 He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1950-1955.\u00a0 While in the Air Force, Matt was stationed in Florida and later in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n<p>For over 50 years, Matt was employed as a licensed plumber and a member of Local #13 Plumber\u2019s Union out of Rochester, NY.\u00a0 He was also a self-employed plumber, working throughout the Hornell and neighboring communities.<\/p>\n<p>Matt was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a lifelong communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church where he served as an altar boy in his youth.\u00a0 He was an avid New York Yankee fan and also enjoyed fishing, especially lake fishing and ice fishing.<\/p>\n<p>An avid gardener, Matt always seemed to have a \u201cGreen Thumb.\u201d\u00a0 His love of gardening developed into him becoming a garlic farmer.\u00a0 He operated several garlic farms throughout the area and loved attending and participating in garlic festivals.\u00a0 Some of the garlic festivals included Fox Run Garlic Festival in Penn Yan, NY, the Cuba Garlic Festival and Hudson Valley Garlic Festival in Saugerties, NY which would draw nearly 200,000 people over festival weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Matt was married in 1955 to the former Gloria Gallagher who died May 1, 1988.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by his brother, Peter Gambino and his step-son, Edward Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 3 sons, Matt (Patricia) Gambino of Greenville, SC, Peter (Candy Brundu) Gambino of Hornell and Michael (William Booth) Gambino of Lake Worth, FL; 1 step-daughter, Bell Steiner of Clewiston, FL; 1 step-son, Clarence \u201cBub\u201d Robinson of Arkport; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A private graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held at St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Fr. Stan Kacprzak \u00a0officiating.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Graveside Service for Matt will be streamed via Facebook Live and can be viewed on the Dagon Funeral Home Facebook page on Thursday \u00a0at 2:00 PM\u00a0 by visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dagonfuneralhome\">www.facebook.com\/dagonfuneralhome<\/a>.\u00a0 The video will remain available for viewing on our Facebook page for 30 days.<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Funeral arrangements are in care of the<\/strong><strong> Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Matt\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to St. Ann\u2019s Academy, 41 Genesee St., Hornell, NY 14843.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matthew P. \u201cMatt\u201d Gambino \u2013 (90) \u2013 of 56 Sawyer St., Hornell, died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning (May 17, 2020).
