Zuschin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo-200x288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo-200x288.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo-250x361.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo-1024x1477.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo-768x1108.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo-1065x1536.jpg 1065w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Herbert-Zuschin-Photo.jpg 1130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Herbert L. \u201cHerb\u201d Zuschin \u2013 (93) \u2013 of 7978 State Route 36, Arkport, NY, died early Tuesday morning (July 14, 2020) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Akron, OH on October 4, 1926, he was the son of Louis &amp; Susan (Besterci) Zuschin.<\/p>\n<p>Herb grew up in Akron, OH and later resided in Detroit, MI where he graduated from the University of Detroit High School (class of 1944).\u00a0 He received his Master\u2019s Degree in Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>He was a Veteran of the US Army and was stationed in Fort Belvoir in Virginia during the Korean Conflict, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.<\/p>\n<p>Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, Herb was employed in the Engineering Department of Manhattan College in New York City.\u00a0 While working at Manhattan College, he met his future wife, Anne Farnan at the Newman Club at Columbia University.\u00a0 They were married at St. Raymond\u2019s Roman Catholic Church in New York City on July 11, 1959.<\/p>\n<p>Residing in Connecticut for ten years, Herb served as Department Head at J.M. Wright High School in Stamford, CT.<\/p>\n<p>Moving to Greenwood, NY in 1970, Herb had been employed in the Engineering Department at the Alfred State College (SUNY Alfred), retiring in 1991.\u00a0 He &amp; Anne resided in Greenwood for 40 years before moving to Arkport in 2010.\u00a0 For about 22 years they resided in Tucson, AZ during the winter months.<\/p>\n<p>Herb had been a communicant of St. Mary\u2019s Church of Rexville and later a communicant of St. Brendan &amp; St. Jude Parish in Almond where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.\u00a0 More recently he was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church of Hornell.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his son, Mark H. Zuschin who died December 10, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his wife, Anne Zuschin; 2 daughters, Kathryn Zuschin of San Francisco, CA and Mary Anne (Paul) Tytka of Buffalo; 1 son, Paul (Dana) Zuschin of San Diego, CA; 2 grandchildren, Matthew &amp; Sean Tytka.<\/p>\n<p>At Herb\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 1:30 PM at St. Mary\u2019s Church of Rexville with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery, Rexville, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Herb\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to a charity of the donor\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Herbert L. \u201cHerb\u201d Zuschin \u2013 (93) \u2013 of 7978 State Route 36, Arkport, NY, died early Tuesday morning (July 14, 2020) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility, following a long illness.
