{"id":4838,"date":"2021-02-23T14:43:37","date_gmt":"2021-02-23T14:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=4838"},"modified":"2021-02-23T14:43:37","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T14:43:37","slug":"egbert-ward-e-w-phillips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=4838","title":{"rendered":"Egbert Ward &#8220;E.W.&#8221; Phillips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4839\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/E.W.-Philips-Photo-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/E.W.-Philips-Photo-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/E.W.-Philips-Photo.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Egbert Ward \u201cE.W.\u201d Phillips \u2013 (89) \u2013 of 2836 State Route 244, Belmont, NY died unexpectedly Saturday evening (February 20, 2021) at his home.<\/p>\n<p>Born in the Town of Ward on August 17, 1931, he was the son of Egbert &amp; Lillian (Austin) Phillips.<\/p>\n<p>E.W. grew up in the Phillips Creek &amp; Alfred area and was a graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School (class of 1948).\u00a0 He later attended Alfred State College.<\/p>\n<p>In 1950, E.W. enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country during the Korean Conflict.\u00a0 He served 19 months in Korea and was stationed in Japan for about a year.\u00a0 He was honorably discharged in 1953.<\/p>\n<p>Following his honorable discharge, E.W. worked as a \u201cJack of All Trades\u201d, including truck driver, cabinet maker, plumber and general farming.\u00a0 For over 30 years, he was employed at the Erie Railroad, Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, Delaware &amp; Hudson (D &amp; H) Railroad, NYS&amp;W Railroad and Canadian Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1993 as an engineer.<\/p>\n<p>E.W. enjoyed coin collecting &amp; stamp collecting and had been a member of the Dansville Moose Lodge and the Canisteo American Legion.<\/p>\n<p>He was married in 1954 to the former Viola Simons who died in 2007.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Gene Adelle Phillips and Eloise Mae Draggett.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his children, Wanda (Tom) Perry of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy (Paul) Coleman of Almond, Dale (Robin Davis) Phillips of the Town of Ward, Troy (Andrea) Phillips of the Town of Ward and Donna (Bill Huber) Phillips of Dansville; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At E.W.\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the <strong>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>E.W.\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to either the Almond Rescue Squad or to the Belmont Rescue Squad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Egbert Ward \u201cE.W.\u201d Phillips \u2013 (89) \u2013 of 2836 State Route 244, Belmont, NY died unexpectedly Saturday evening (February 20, 2021) at his home.
