{"id":5013,"date":"2021-06-16T16:23:08","date_gmt":"2021-06-16T16:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=5013"},"modified":"2021-06-17T19:20:49","modified_gmt":"2021-06-17T19:20:49","slug":"vincent-schiera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=5013","title":{"rendered":"Vincent Schiera"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5014\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Vincent-Schiera-Photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"216\" \/>Vincent Schiera \u2013 94 \u2013 of New York City died at the Isabella Nursing Home in New York.<\/p>\n<p>He was born in Palermo, Sicily on May 14, 1925, and was the son of Giuseppe &amp; Teresa (Spatola) Schiera.\u00a0 He moved to the United States and settled in New York City and became a proud US citizen.<\/p>\n<p>He worked a number of years as a grocer and later became the owner of The Public Fish Market which was the oldest fish market in Harlem.<\/p>\n<p>Vincent loved to visit the Italian bakeries and coffee shops on the Lower East Side on Sundays with his family.\u00a0 He was well known in his Washington Heights neighborhood as \u201cPapi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was married to the former Julia Losecco (of Hornell) who died in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his daughter, Mary Theresa Schiera Vega and her husband, Edward G. Vega; grandchildren, Dina, Jenna; great-granddaughter, Mia.\u00a0 He also leaves behind his sister, Rosa; nephews, Pepino, Giorgio, Nello; nieces, Marchella &amp; Cetti in Palermo, Sicily.<\/p>\n<p>At Vincent\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Fr.
