{"id":527,"date":"2011-01-11T20:36:19","date_gmt":"2011-01-11T20:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=527"},"modified":"2011-03-19T13:58:32","modified_gmt":"2011-03-19T13:58:32","slug":"samuel-d-sam-strickland-1954-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=527","title":{"rendered":"Samuel D. &#8220;Sam&#8221; Strickland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-528\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=528\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-528\" title=\"Samuel Strickland Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Samuel-Strickland-Photo-250x373.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Samuel-Strickland-Photo-250x373.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Samuel-Strickland-Photo-200x298.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Samuel-Strickland-Photo.jpg 739w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Samuel D. \u201cSam\u201d Strickland<\/strong> \u2013 56 \u2013 of 10285 Warden Road, Swain, died Monday afternoon (January 10, 2011) at McAuley Manor following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Fort Lee, VA on September 16, 1954, he was the son of John O Strickland and the former Joann Dickerson.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the years, Sam resided in many locations including Virginia, Alabama, New York State &amp; Vermont.\u00a0 He has resided in Swain for the past 7 years.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving his GED, Sam earned his bachelor\u2019s degree in animal husbandry from the School of the Ozarks in Branson, MO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was a veteran of the US Army, serving his country from 1972 \u2013 1975.\u00a0 While in the military he was stationed in several locations including Germany.\u00a0 He was employed for about 20 years with the USDA as a meat inspector, primarily while living in Vermont.<\/p>\n<p>Sam was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and making maple syrup.\u00a0 He was also a member of the Canaseraga American Legion.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his father, John O Strickland, SR.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his son, Samuel O. Strickland of Canaseraga; his mother, Joann Wing; 3 brothers; 3 sisters; several nieces &amp; nephews.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At Sam\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family.\u00a0 Arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Memorial contributions may be made to either the Canaseraga Fire Department, Main St., Canaseraga, NY 14822 or to Canaseraga Spirit of Christmas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samuel D. \u201cSam\u201d Strickland \u2013 56 \u2013 of 10285 Warden Road, Swain, died Monday afternoon (January 10, 2011) at McAuley Manor following a long illness.
