{"id":5460,"date":"2022-02-05T14:31:05","date_gmt":"2022-02-05T14:31:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=5460"},"modified":"2022-02-08T12:25:31","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T12:25:31","slug":"virginia-r-ginny-appleton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=5460","title":{"rendered":"Virginia R. &#8220;Ginny&#8221; Appleton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Virginia-Appleton-Photo-250x358.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Virginia-Appleton-Photo-250x358.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Virginia-Appleton-Photo-200x286.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Virginia-Appleton-Photo.jpg 419w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Virginia R. \u201cGinny\u201d Appleton \u2013 (89) \u2013 of Arkport, died Friday evening (February 4, 2022) at St. James Hospital, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Manitowoc, WI on March 4, 1932, she was the daughter of William &amp; Mary Gertrude (Wesler) Runge. \u00a0\u00a0In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William.<\/p>\n<p>In 1954 she married George Appleton of Ionia, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Ginny grew up in Manitowoc, WI and attended Lawrence University.\u00a0 She later graduated from National-Lewis University in Evanston, IL with a BA Degree in education.<\/p>\n<p>She resided in Honeoye Falls for many years and was a third grade teacher at Honeoye Falls Central School.\u00a0 She later served as office manager at a dental practice in Honeoye Falls.\u00a0 Ginny was a member of the Honeoye Falls Zoning Board of Appeals and later of the Planning Board.\u00a0 She was also active in FISH, Meals-On-Wheels, Totiakton Garden Club and Literary Club.<\/p>\n<p>George &amp; Ginny moved to Prattsburgh where they lived until moving to Arkport in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>While living in Prattsburgh, Ginny and George were members of St. Patrick\u2019s Church.\u00a0 After moving to Arkport, they were members of St. Brendan\u2019s Parish of Almond, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Ginny was an avid knitter and would knit sweaters for her young grandchildren and great-grandchildren every year. She also knit dozens of lap-robes and hundreds of booties for the VA.\u00a0 She was a life-long follower and fan of the Chicago Cubs and of the Green Bay Packers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her husband, George, Ginny is survived by her daughter, Mary Brownell of Canisteo; 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Anthony) Barnum of Pompy, NY, Sarah (Jon) Hager of Fayetteville, NY, Rebecca (Amir) Mirdamadi of Raleigh, NC and Kevin (Cheris) Mazanec of Hornell; 6 great-grandchildren, Timothy Barnum, Trevor Barnum, Ethan Barnum, Elizabeth Barnum, Emmit Hager and Anderson Hager; her sister-in-law, Barbara Runge of Shakopee, MN; her niece, Lisa (Mitch) Engelhart of Roswell, GA; along with numerous cousins.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Virginia R. \u201cGinny\u201d Appleton will receive friends on Monday (February 14, 2022) from 4:00 PM \u00a0\u2013 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday (February 15, 2022) at 11:00 AM at St. Brendan\u2019s Church in Almond.\u00a0 Burial will be in St. Bridget\u2019s Cemetery in Bloomfield, NY at the convenience of the family.<\/p>\n<p>Ginny\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hornell YMCA or to the Hornell Public Library.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia R. \u201cGinny\u201d Appleton \u2013 (89) \u2013 of Arkport, died Friday evening (February 4, 2022) at St. James Hospital, following a long illness.
