{"id":5963,"date":"2022-09-16T18:11:45","date_gmt":"2022-09-16T18:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=5963"},"modified":"2022-09-19T11:32:18","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T11:32:18","slug":"sheila-ann-dwight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=5963","title":{"rendered":"Sheila Ann Dwight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5970\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Sheila-Dwight-Photo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"282\" \/>Sheila Ann Dwight \u2013 57 \u2013 of 7696 Ricks Road, Hornell (Town of Fremont), died Friday morning (September 16, 2022) at her home, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on August 15, 1965, she was the daughter of Betty (Young) Shorts.<\/p>\n<p>Sheila grew up in the Canisteo area and attended Canisteo Central School.\u00a0 She was a veteran of the US Army National Guard, serving her country from 1982 \u2013 1983.<\/p>\n<p>Following her honorable discharge from the National Guard, Sheila briefly worked as a seamstress &amp; sorter at the former Marion Rohr Corporation.\u00a0 For several years she was a \u201cStay At Home Mom,\u201d raising her children and taking care of her family.\u00a0 For over 20 years, Sheila was employed at the Hornell High School Cafeteria, serving as a cook, server and eventually as kitchen manager.\u00a0 She retired about four years ago due to ill health.<\/p>\n<p>Sheila had a deep love of animals and for many years raised cows, chickens and pigs.\u00a0 She also had a deep affection for her many border collies that she owned throughout the years.\u00a0 Along with her husband, Kurt, she enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees (MLB) and the Buffalo Bills (NFL).<\/p>\n<p>As a young girl, Sheila\u2019s family spent time on Loucks Pond in Avoca where she developed a love of the outdoors and fishing.\u00a0 Throughout the years, she continued her love of fishing &#8212; especially on the Dwight Family Pond in Fremont.<\/p>\n<p>She was married on May 12, 1984 to Kurt Dwight who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are 2 children, Nicole (Joe) Harris of Hornell and Justin (Mandi) Dwight of Sykesville, MD; 1 sister, Dawn (Glen) Burritt of Canisteo; 6 grandchildren, Aeriana Bourgeois, Derrick Harris, Lincoln Harris, Collin Wheaton, Raiden Dwight and Savannah Dwight; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Sheila\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Sheila\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY\u00a0 14843.<\/p>\n<p>To leave an online condolence or share a memory, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\">www.dagonfuneralhome.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheila Ann Dwight \u2013 57 \u2013 of 7696 Ricks Road, Hornell (Town of Fremont), died Friday morning (September 16, 2022) at her home, following a long illness.
