Robert F. \u201cBob\u201d Giles \u2013 71 \u2013 of Gibbs St., Rochester, died early Saturday morning (October 8, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.<\/p>\nRobert F. \u201cBob\u201d Giles \u2013 71 \u2013 of Gibbs St., Rochester, died early Saturday morning (October 8, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.<\/p>\n
Born in Rochester on December 6, 1950, he was the son of Richard & Katherine (Bay) Giles.<\/p>\n
Bob grew up in Rochester and was a graduate of St. Bernard\u2019s Seminary High School (class of 1968).\u00a0 He later attended St. John Fisher College.<\/p>\n
In his younger years, Bob was a communicant of St. Michael\u2019s Church where he served as an Altar Boy and later played guitar in the Church Folk Group.\u00a0 A self-proclaimed \u201cHippie,\u201d he enjoyed listening to Folk Rock, Jazz, and R&B music.\u00a0 He also enjoyed rooting for the Raiders (NFL).<\/p>\n
He retired as a claims adjuster for the New York State Insurance Fund of Rochester.<\/p>\n
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Katherine Giles.<\/p>\n
Survived by his aunt, Olga Brutsman of Andover; several cousins; along with many friends.\u00a0 He will also be sadly missed by his \u201c2nd<\/sup> Family\u201d at Salinger\u2019s Tavern.<\/p>\n At Bob\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.<\/p>\n A \u201cCelebration of Life\u201d will be held at Salinger\u2019s, 107 East Ave., Rochester, NY on Sunday October 23 at 4:00 PM.<\/p>\n Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n Bob\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY\u00a0 13790.<\/p>\n
