{"id":6120,"date":"2022-12-02T16:15:38","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T16:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=6120"},"modified":"2022-12-11T13:26:04","modified_gmt":"2022-12-11T13:26:04","slug":"cynthia-schumaker-schultheis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=6120","title":{"rendered":"Cynthia (Schumaker) Schultheis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6136\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Cynthia-Schultheis-Photo.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Cynthia-Schultheis-Photo.jpeg 237w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Cynthia-Schultheis-Photo-200x298.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/>Cynthia J. \u201cCindy\u201d (Schumaker) Schultheis \u2013 74 \u2013 of 224 Greeley Ave., Hornell, died Wednesday afternoon (November 30, 2022) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, surrounded by her loving family.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on April 4, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Matthew &amp; Jeanne (Griffin) DeGaetano.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1966). \u00a0She was employed as a Lab Technician at the former St. James Mercy Hospital for about 30 years and later worked as a Direct Caregiver for Steuben County ARC in Hornell. \u00a0Cindy also served as an advocate for several ARC residents in the Hornell Area. She retired about 15 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish.\u00a0 Cindy had a deep affection for all animals and throughout the years owned many dogs &amp; cats. \u00a0She also \u201cadopted\u201d many unwanted animals when their owners could no longer care for them.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy always enjoyed rooting for the Green Bay Packers. \u00a0She loved surrounding herself with family, friends and neighbors, helping them whenever they needed her.<\/p>\n<p>The word \u201cno\u201d was not in her vocabulary. \u00a0One of her greatest joys was being a true friend. \u00a0One of the many things she treasured was her regular \u201cget-togethers\u201d with her girlfriends from the Class of \u201866 as well as with former colleagues from the hospital. \u00a0Sharing news of her grandchildren was always special.\u00a0 She will be forever remembered as \u201cBeepa\u201d to them.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her first husband of 31 years, Roy Schumaker and second husband Alan Schultheis.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are her son, Matthew \u201cMatt\u201d (Erin) Schumaker of Ontario, NY; her sister, Lynda (Dennis) O\u2019Brien of Hornell; 3 grandchildren, Justyn, Emma and Ethan Schumaker; her niece, Bridget O\u2019Brien of San Rafael, CA. , her very special cousin, Susie Mauro, her aunts Fran Crane, and Ann Potter. \u00a0She is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.<\/p>\n<p>A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 A luncheon for friends and family will follow at The Main Place.\u00a0 Final internment, at the convenience of the family, will be in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy\u2019s family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to either the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Steuben ARC, 1 ARC Way, Bath, NY \u00a014810. \u00a0Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>To leave an online condolence or share a memory, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/\">www.dagonfuneralhome.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cynthia J. \u201cCindy\u201d (Schumaker) Schultheis \u2013 74 \u2013 of 224 Greeley Ave., Hornell, died Wednesday afternoon (November 30, 2022) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, surrounded by her loving family.
