{"id":6176,"date":"2023-01-04T12:53:55","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T12:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=6176"},"modified":"2023-01-04T15:14:10","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T15:14:10","slug":"harold-m-skip-wood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=6176","title":{"rendered":"Harold M. &#8220;Skip&#8221; Wood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Harold-Wood-Photo-250x358.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Harold-Wood-Photo-250x358.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Harold-Wood-Photo-200x286.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Harold-Wood-Photo.jpg 419w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Hornell, New York<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harold M. \u201cSkip\u201d Wood, Jr. \u2013 (80) of 24 Marick Park Drive, North Hornell, died Tuesday afternoon (January 3, 2023) at St. James Hospital following a long illness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A native &amp; life resident of Hornell, he was born December 9, 1942, and was the son of Harold &amp; Jeanette (Severson) Wood, Sr.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skip was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1960) and later graduated from Alfred State College where he majored in Data Processing.\u00a0 He later earned his Bachelor\u2019s of Science Degree from Alfred University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1961-1964.\u00a0 He was stationed in England for 3 \u00bd years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skip was employed for 31 years as a Technical Specialist at SUNY Alfred, teaching computer programming.\u00a0 He retired in 1997.\u00a0 Throughout the years he was also a self employed contractor in the Hornell area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and a member of the Hornell American Legion.\u00a0 Skip enjoyed hunting and, in his younger years, loved playing golf.\u00a0 In recent years, he loved attending his grandchildren\u2019s sporting events<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to his parents, Skip was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Wood; his sister, Margaret \u201cPeg\u201d Phillips.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was married on August 27, 1966 to the former Kathy Buono who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are his son, Harold \u201cScott\u201d (Susan) Wood, III of North Hornell; 1 sister, Jeanne Wood of Montour Falls; 3 grandchildren, Logan (Jocelyn) Wood, Jordan (Kate) Wood and Lindsay Farris; his brother-in-law, Jack Phillips; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The family of Harold M. \u201cSkip\u201d Wood, Jr. will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 PM \u2013 4:00 PM at the <\/span><b>Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funeral services with military honors will be held on at the conclusion of calling hours at 4:00 PM with Rev. Craig Brittingham officiating.\u00a0 Burial will be in the Bath National Cemetery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skip\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to the National Juvenile Diabetes Association, 26 Broadway (14<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Floor), New York, NY 10004.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The American Flag will be flown at Half-Staff at the Dagon Funeral Home in recognition of Skip\u2019s service to his country while serving in the US Air Force.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hornell, New York Harold M. \u201cSkip\u201d Wood, Jr. \u2013 (80) of 24 Marick Park Drive, North Hornell, died Tuesday afternoon (January 3, 2023) at St. James Hospital following a long illness.
