{"id":6230,"date":"2023-01-29T18:06:45","date_gmt":"2023-01-29T18:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=6230"},"modified":"2023-01-30T21:36:28","modified_gmt":"2023-01-30T21:36:28","slug":"joseph-m-joe-dropp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=6230","title":{"rendered":"Joseph M. &#8220;Joe&#8221; Dropp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Joseph-Dropp-Photo-250x370.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Joseph-Dropp-Photo-250x370.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Joseph-Dropp-Photo-200x296.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Joseph-Dropp-Photo.jpg 297w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Hornell, New York<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joseph M. \u201cJoe\u201d Dropp \u2013 75 \u2013 of 6660 Laine Rd., Hornell (Town of Hornellsville), died Saturday evening (January 28, 2023) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in Hornell on January 7, 1948, he was the son of Joseph &amp; Rita (Harrington) Dropp.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1966).\u00a0 Following high school, he served for two years as a member of the US Army and was stationed in Vietnam for a year during the Vietnam Conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Joe returned to the Hornell area and began his career with the railroad.\u00a0 For over 30 years, he served as a plumber &amp; carpenter foreman for the former Erie Railroad, Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail.\u00a0 He later served in the security department of the former Morrison-Knudson (MK) and later Alstom Corporation.\u00a0 Throughout the years, Joe also worked part time as a barber for Angie\u2019s Barber Shop in Hornell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and later St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 He was also a member of the Hornell VFW and the Hornell American Legion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting (deer &amp; small game) and fishing (streams).\u00a0 He also loved his time spent working outdoors &#8212; doing yard work, mowing and cutting trees.\u00a0 He was skilled mechanic &amp; carpenter and could fix just about anything.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gerald \u201cJerry\u201d Dropp and Thomas \u201cTom\u201d Dropp; his sister, Patricia \u201cPat\u201d Dropp; and his granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Rose Logan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was married on June 29, 1969 to the former Mary Ellen Crandall who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are 4 daughters, Debra \u201cDeb\u201d (Phil) Logan of Almond, Colleen (David) Brownell of Hornell, Bridgett (Peter) Galfusz of Williamsburg, VA and Erin (Bil) Panter of Henrietta, NY; his brother, Michael (Patrice Campbell) Dropp of Cortland; his sister, Rita Elizabeth \u201cLiz\u201d Ramsey-Dropp of Warren, PA; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The family of Joseph M. \u201cJoe\u201d Dropp will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 PM \u2013 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 The US Army will conduct Military Honors at the conclusion of calling hours at 7:00 PM.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY\u00a0 10306.
