{"id":656,"date":"2011-05-07T19:43:55","date_gmt":"2011-05-07T19:43:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=656"},"modified":"2011-05-07T20:22:00","modified_gmt":"2011-05-07T20:22:00","slug":"anthony-tony-marino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=656","title":{"rendered":"Anthony &#8220;Tony&#8221; Marino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-657\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=657\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-657\" title=\"Anthony Marino Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Anthony-Marino-Photo-250x309.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Anthony-Marino-Photo-250x309.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Anthony-Marino-Photo-200x247.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Anthony-Marino-Photo-1024x1266.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Anthony\u00a0 C. \u201cTony\u201d\u00a0 Marino &#8211; 77 &#8211; of 98 River St., Hornell, died Friday morning, (May 6, 2011) at his home, following a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.\u00a0 He died the day before his 78th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on May 7, 1933, he was the son of Carl &amp; Rose (Gallese) Marino.<\/p>\n<p>Tony grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann\u2019s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1951).\u00a0 He was a 2 year veteran of the US Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Following his discharge from the US Army, Tony resided in the Buffalo area where he was employed at a Sunoco Service Station.\u00a0 He later owned &amp; operated a Mobile Gas Station in Cheektowaga.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tony returned to Hornell in 1984 and purchased the former Jack\u2019s Place.\u00a0 He changed the name to Tony\u2019s Place and operated the tavern for the next 20 years.\u00a0 The tavern in now called Vinny\u2019s Place.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 Tony had been a member of the Hornell Association, Hornell American Legion, Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy) and the Hornell Knights of Columbus.\u00a0 He enjoyed watching sporting events on television and especially enjoyed rooting for the Buffalo Bills, New York Yankees and Buffalo Sabers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Charles \u201cChuck\u201d Marino.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 2 daughters, Jovenia \u201cDena\u201d Corcoran of Hornell and Jennifer (Dr. Daniel) Orlando of Crystal Beach, FL; 4 sisters, Joanne (Robert) Nilsen of Arkport, Cheryl Raschiatore of Rochester, Nicoletta Barrie of Rochester and Marylyn Marino of Rochester; 5 grandchildren, Gregory (Deanna) Addison, Carli Corcoran, Kasey Corcoran, Heather Corcoran and Nicholas Orlando; 3 great-grandchildren, Tara, Jaime &amp; Anthony; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Anthony C. \u201cTony\u201d Marino will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM \u2013 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tony\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to either Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830 or to the Hornell Humane Society, PO Box 533, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Tony\u2019s service to his country during the Korean Conflict, the American Flag will be flown at Half Staff at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anthony\u00a0 C. \u201cTony\u201d\u00a0 Marino &#8211; 77 &#8211; of 98 River St., Hornell, died Friday morning, (May 6, 2011) at his home, following a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.\u00a0 He died the day before his 78th birthday.
