{"id":7389,"date":"2024-12-28T19:27:29","date_gmt":"2024-12-29T00:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=7389"},"modified":"2024-12-28T19:27:59","modified_gmt":"2024-12-29T00:27:59","slug":"7389","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=7389","title":{"rendered":"Peter A. \u201cPete\u201d DiRaimondo, Jr."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Peter-DiRaimondo-Photo-250x307.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Peter-DiRaimondo-Photo-250x307.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Peter-DiRaimondo-Photo-200x246.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Peter-DiRaimondo-Photo.jpg 488w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Hornell, New York<\/p>\n<p>Peter A. \u201cPete\u201d DiRaimondo, Jr., 76, of North Hornell, NY passed peacefully at home on December 27, 2024 after a long courageous battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 8, 1948, he was the son of the late Anna and Peter DiRaimondo, Sr.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from John Jay High School, Pete was drafted into the U.S. Army.\u00a0 He served for two years and served two terms in Viet Nam.\u00a0 Peter was honorably discharged in 1970.\u00a0 While on holiday leave, he met his wife, Rosalie and they were married in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Peter later attended the Aeronautics School of Engineering for aircraft mechanics while working full time at the U.S. Postal Services.\u00a0 He worked as a postal letter carrier in Brooklyn and relocated to Hornell in 1986 with his family where he lived for the past 38 years.<\/p>\n<p>He was a trustee of the Village of North Hornell and served multiple terms.\u00a0 He enjoyed serving his community and working with his fellow trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Peter was an avid scuba diver in his younger days, and he also loved to hunt, fish, ski and go boating &amp; camping, especially with his band family.\u00a0 He loved his espresso and would offer to make anyone a cup especially at camp adding some Sambuca for a kick!<\/p>\n<p>Having learned to play the drums at an early age, Pete was a member of several bands in Brooklyn.\u00a0 When he moved to Hornell, he joined 78 RPM with whom he enjoyed playing Big Band music which was his all-time favorite.<\/p>\n<p>Peter is survived by his wife, Rosalie of 52 years; his son, Peter DiRaimondo, III of New Jersey and grandchildren, Landon, Owen, and Ellie; his daughter, Rosanna (Adam) Knotts of Corning, NY, and grandchildren Arabella, Adaline, Isaac; his sister, Andrea (Gene) Scafidi of Taylorsville, NC; his brother, Frank of Hornell, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews.\u00a0 He loved all of his cousins dearly, especially those with whom he grew up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeter danced to the beat of his own drum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family of Peter A. \u201cPete\u201d DiRaimondo, Jr. will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.\u00a0 Burial will follow at St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Pete\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to either St. Jude Children\u2019s\u00a0 Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN\u00a0 38105 or to Care First Hospice, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY\u00a0 14870.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>To leave an online condolence or share a memory, visit www.dagonfuneralhome.com.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Pete\u2019s service to his country as a member of the US Army, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hornell, New York Peter A. \u201cPete\u201d DiRaimondo, Jr., 76, of North Hornell, NY passed peacefully at home on December 27, 2024 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
