New \u2013 (94) \u2013 formerly of Canaseraga, NY, died early Sunday morning (February 9, 2025) at St. Ann\u2019s Home in Rochester where she had resided for the past 17 months.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Kenton, OH on June 18, 1930, she was the daughter of Albert &amp; Zella (Now) Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Phyllis grew up in Kenton, OH and resided in Lima, OH for many years.\u00a0 Moving to Rochester in the late 1940s, she had been employed for a time at Fannie Farmer Candy Company and later worked at Germano Simon Corporation making thermometers.<\/p>\n<p>A resident of the Canaseraga area since the late 1950s, Phyllis was employed for 27 years as a developmental Aid at Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea, NY.<\/p>\n<p>She was a member of the Office of Aging where she enjoyed her weekly lunch meeting with her many friends.\u00a0 In years past, Phyllis enjoyed crocheting and working on crossword puzzles.\u00a0 She was an avid reader and throughout the years read countless novels.\u00a0 She had a deep affection for dogs and was devoted to her canine companion, Mia.<\/p>\n<p>Phyllis was married on June 18, 1952 to George E. New who died September 11, 2002.\u00a0 She was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen E. New (died 1993); 3 brothers, Lowell Smith, Eugene Smith &amp; Robert Smith; 3 sisters, Mildred Sendun, Imogene Timothy &amp; Marilyn Strange.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are her daughter, Laura McNaull of Rochester; several nieces &amp; nephews, including Janet (Janie) Gillmer of Canaseraga.<\/p>\n<p>At Phyllis\u2019 request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with final interment is St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery, Canaseraga, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Phyllis\u2019 family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.<\/p>\n<p>To leave an online condolence or share a memory, visit www.dagonfuneralhome.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canaseraga, New York Phyllis A.
