{"id":748,"date":"2011-08-11T02:08:54","date_gmt":"2011-08-11T02:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=748"},"modified":"2011-08-11T02:08:54","modified_gmt":"2011-08-11T02:08:54","slug":"mary-dirocco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=748","title":{"rendered":"Mary DiRocco"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-749\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-749\" title=\"Mary DiRocco Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Mary-DiRocco-Photo-250x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Mary-DiRocco-Photo-250x286.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Mary-DiRocco-Photo-200x229.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Mary-DiRocco-Photo.jpg 645w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Mary DiRocco \u2013 77 \u2013 of 59 Sayles St., Alfred, died unexpectedly Monday evening (August 8, 2011) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.<\/p>\n<p>Born in New York City on October 10, 1933, she was the daughter of Elmer &amp; Mary (Lawlor) Howe.<\/p>\n<p>Mary grew up in New York City and resided in the Buffalo \u2013 North Tonawanda area from 1965 \u2013 1972.\u00a0 From 1972 \u2013 1975 she lived in Hornell and has resided in Alfred since 1975.<\/p>\n<p>While living in New York City, she was employed as a waitress for several restaurants.\u00a0 While living in Alfred, she owned &amp; operated a Home Day-Care Service for several years.\u00a0 Mary later was employed as an Adult Care Giver at Allegany County ARC.\u00a0 More recently she worked in the catering department of the Alfred University Dining Facility.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mary attended St. Jude Chapel at Alfred State College.\u00a0 She had a deep love of animals and, throughout the years, cared for her many pet dogs &amp; cats.\u00a0 She also loved birds and would feed them out of the back door of her home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a person who enjoyed doing craftwork, Mary especially liked sewing, knitting, crocheting and making beautiful Afghans.\u00a0 She also enjoyed gardening \u2013 both flowers &amp; vegetables.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mary was honored to be known as a \u201cMilitary Mom\u201d as all of her children either served or are currently serving in the US Armed Forces.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Years ago, Mary signed up with the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (Organ Donor Program).\u00a0 Because of her generosity in donating her organs upon her death, several people will have a much better quality of life after receiving her organs.\u00a0 She truly gave the \u201cgift that keeps on giving\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mary was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Howe; 3 brothers, Elmer Howe JR, Raymond Howe and John Howe.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 3 sons, Kevin (Jessie) Howe of Almond, Joseph (Adriana) DiRocco of Germany and David (Irma) DiRocco of Alaska; 1 daughter, Tina (Bill) Francis of Dublin, OH; 1 brother, James Howe of Long Island; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Mary\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.\u00a0 Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Drive, Hornell, NY 14843.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mary DiRocco \u2013 77 \u2013 of 59 Sayles St., Alfred, died unexpectedly Monday evening (August 8, 2011) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
