\"\"<\/a>Carol A. Wellington \u2013 68 \u2013 of 42 Fulton St., Hornell, died Saturday afternoon (September 10, 2011) at McAuley Manor, following a long illness.<\/p>\n

A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born January 26, 1943, and was the daughter of Oscar \u201cBill\u201d & Lucille (LaFaro) Fawcett.<\/p>\n

Carol was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1961).\u00a0 She had been employed as a hostess at the former Big Elms Restaurant for several years.\u00a0 For 32 years, Carol served as a Teacher\u2019s Aid with Hornell Area BOCES, retiring 6 years ago.<\/p>\n

She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sons of Italy (Italian American Women\u2019s Club) and also a member of AZB Sorority.<\/p>\n

For many years, Carol was deeply involved with Special Olympics.\u00a0 She volunteered countless hours traveling throughout New York State taking the Special Olympians to track meets.\u00a0 Carol was instrumental and one of the founders of the Hornell Cinderella Softball League where she served as a coach for many years.\u00a0 She also coached Hornell Junior Varsity Basketball for several years.<\/p>\n

Carol enjoyed a \u201cfriendly wager\u201d and loved visiting the casinos in Salamanca & Niagara Falls.\u00a0 She had a deep love of animals and throughout the years enjoyed the company of her pet dogs.\u00a0 She always looked forward to her Friday night rendezvous with the other members of Six-Pack Alley.\u00a0 She will be sadly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.<\/p>\n

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill & Lucille Fawcett.<\/p>\n

Carol was married in St. Ann\u2019s Church on October 13, 1962 to George Wellington who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are her daughter, Kim (Will) Schmitt of Hornell; 3 sisters, Joan Dunn of Hornell, Nancy Kull of Georgia and Mary Lou Fawcett of Painted Post; her \u201cSpecial Sis\u201d, Margie Fawcett Terry of Hornell; 3 grandchildren, Andrew (Sally) Schmitt, Brian Schmitt and Kyle Schmitt; 3 aunts, Janice Fawcett, Anna LoCoco and Rose LaFaro; several nieces & nephews.<\/p>\n

The family of Carol A. Wellington will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM\u00a0 –\u00a0 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n

Carol\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to either the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Drive, Hornell, NY 14843 or to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
