{"id":7793,"date":"2025-09-24T12:57:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T16:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=7793"},"modified":"2025-09-24T12:57:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T16:57:10","slug":"james-george-jim-gentile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=7793","title":{"rendered":"James George &#8220;Jim&#8221; Gentile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/James-Gentile-Photo-250x328.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/James-Gentile-Photo-250x328.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/James-Gentile-Photo-200x262.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/James-Gentile-Photo.jpg 458w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Hornell, NY\u00a0 \/\u00a0 Fremont, NY<\/p>\n<p>James George \u201cJim\u201d Gentile \u2013 90 \u2013 of State Route 21, Hornell (Town of Fremont) died early Tuesday morning (September 23, 2025) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on August 31, 1935, he was the son of Pasquale \u201cPatsy\u201d &amp; Lucy (Viola) Gentile.<\/p>\n<p>Jim grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School and later received his General Education Diploma (GED).\u00a0 He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving his country from 1954 &#8211; 1956.<\/p>\n<p>Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, Jim was employed for several years at the former SKF Industries of Hornell and also Foster Wheeler Corporation of Dansville.\u00a0 For 30 years, he served as a UPS Delivery Driver, retiring in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Jim was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0 He had been a member (and twice past governor) of the Hornell Moose Lodge and the Arkport American Legion.\u00a0 For many years Jim served as a volunteer fireman for the Arkport Fire Department.\u00a0 He also enjoyed rooting for the Buffalo Bills &#8212; especially during the Super Bowl Years.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Rose Secondo, and Mary Holt.<\/p>\n<p>Jim was married on April 23, 1983 to the former Rosemary Edger who survives.\u00a0 Also surviving are 8 children, Mike (Brenda) Gentile of Walworth, NY, Sue (Dave) Woolston of Rochester, NY, Cathy (Frank) Balys of Holley, NY, Andrea Jo (Steve) Johnson of Bowie, MD, James (Rachel) Gentile of Gettysburg, PA, Anthony Gentile of Leadville, CO, Vincent (Erin) Gentile of Painted Post, NY and Frank (Charlie &amp; Karl) Gentile of Rochester, NY; 2 brothers, Angelo (Marguerite) Gentile of Hornell and Patsey (Betty) Gentile of Lackawanna, NY; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Jim\u2019s request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (September 26, 2025) at 10:00 AM at St. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Jim\u2019s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to St. Ann\u2019s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY\u00a0 14843.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Jim\u2019s service to his country as a member of the US Army, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n<p>To leave an online condolence or share a memory, visit www.dagonfuneralhome.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hornell, NY\u00a0 \/\u00a0 Fremont, NY James George \u201cJim\u201d Gentile \u2013 90 \u2013 of State Route 21, Hornell (Town of Fremont) died early Tuesday morning (September 23, 2025) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a long illness.
