{"id":7885,"date":"2025-11-12T07:21:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T12:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=7885"},"modified":"2025-11-13T16:05:27","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T21:05:27","slug":"curtis-jerry-jones-sr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=7885","title":{"rendered":"Curtis Jerry Jones, Sr."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7888\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Curtis-Jones-Photo-250x340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Curtis-Jones-Photo-250x340.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Curtis-Jones-Photo-200x272.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Curtis-Jones-Photo.jpg 326w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Hornell, New York<\/p>\n<p>Curtis Jerry Jones, Sr. \u2013 76 \u2013 of 67 Platt St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning (November 12, 2025) at his home.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Piper, AL on October 7, 1949, he was the son of Charles &amp; Eva Jane (Coleman) Jones, Sr.<\/p>\n<p>Curtis grew up in Birmingham, AL and Montevallo, AL was a graduate of Montevallo High School (class of 1967).\u00a0 He later attended Grambling University and the University of Alabama earning an Associate\u2019s Degree in Psychology.<\/p>\n<p>He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1972-1977.\u00a0 While in the Air Force, Curtis was stationed in several locations including Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY and was also stationed for a time in England.<\/p>\n<p>Following his honorable discharge from the military, Curtis resided in Detroit, MI for over 20 years and had been employed at the South East Michigan Transportation Authority.\u00a0 He moved to New York State and has resided in Hornell for the past 20 years.\u00a0 He enjoyed basketball and cooking.<\/p>\n<p>Curtis was employed as a Certified Medical Assistant and the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY.\u00a0 A lifelong Jehovah Witness, he was a member of Kingdom Hall of Canisteo.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by 3 sisters &amp; 7 brothers.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are his son, Curtis (Bonnie) Jones, Jr. of Lakewood, CO; his former wife, Maria (Wayne) Sherman of Colorado Springs, CO; 1 sister, Gaynell (Edward) Jenkins of South Carolina; 1 brother, Clayton Jones of NYC; 2 grandchildren, Dreyke Jones and Daphnie Jones; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces &amp; great-nephews.<\/p>\n<p>At Curtis\u2019 request there will be no calling hours.\u00a0 A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday (November 18, 2025) at 7:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah&#8217;s Witnesses, 1162 Airport Road, Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.<\/p>\n<p>Curtis\u2019 family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to Faith in Action Steuben County, 20 Broadway Mall, Hornell, NY\u00a0 14843.<\/p>\n<p>To leave an online condolence or share a memory, visit www.dagonfuneralhome.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hornell, New York Curtis Jerry Jones, Sr. \u2013 76 \u2013 of 67 Platt St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning (November 12, 2025) at his home.
