Lucile May Brasted Clancy \u2013 87 \u2013 of Landis Road, Hornell, (Town of Hartsville) passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon (June 9, 2026) at St. James Hospital following a brief illness. Surrounded by her loving family, she shared one last celebration with her husband on his 87th birthday before taking flight to meet her Lord and loved ones at a heavenly reunion.<\/p>\n
Born in Hornell on June 12, 1938, she was the daughter of Wilbur Prior & Lois Angie (Mead) Brasted.<\/p>\n
Lucile grew up attending the old country school on Big Creek Rd and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1956).\u00a0 She later attended Keuka College.\u00a0 For several years she was employed in advertising at the Hornell Evening Tribune.\u00a0 Lucile was an excellent square dancer and after dancing into his heart from the start, she was united in marriage on August 25, 1962 at St. Ann\u2019s Church to Francis A. \u201cFran\u201d Clancy who survives.\u00a0 Together they established Francile Holstein Farm and raised 8 children, with Lucile proudly serving as a stay-at-home-mother.<\/p>\n
Lucile was an amazing seamstress, and as a member of the 4-H club won first place at a sewing contest in New York City.\u00a0 Some of her most notable creations were her own beautiful wedding gown along with matching honeymoon outfits.\u00a0 Lucile was a wonderful cook and her homemade pies were out of this world.\u00a0 She was skilled at feeding a large family from the garden and farm, which instilled an appreciation of eating from the earth which lives on in her family today.<\/p>\n
Following the birth of their son Chad who had Down Syndrome, Lucile took on the role of advocate for special needs children, one of many examples of using her own life circumstances to encourage and educate others.\u00a0 As her family grew so did her knowledge and participation in the growth of local chapters of LeLeche league, networking to empower and support women to trust their intuition and follow their babies cues not only in breastfeeding but birth and mothering in general.\u00a0 This same deep trust in God\u2019s design and nature knowing best was something that helped carry Lucile peacefully through whatever life brought, up until her final moments.<\/p>\n
During her youth Lucile was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hornell, and later attended Alfred Almond Bible Church.\u00a0 A devoted follower of God, Lucile was a shining example of strong Christian faith, demonstrating unwavering trust and encouraging the same in others.\u00a0 She found great joy in helping those in need and exemplified the love of Christ in action.<\/p>\n
Lucile enjoyed playing word games, especially Scrabble, and building Jig-Saw Puzzles.\u00a0 In her later years she spent time playing games and puzzles on her iPad.\u00a0 Lucile had a way with words, writing poetry and countless letters and notes.\u00a0 In her younger years she was constantly sending love and encouragement to others.\u00a0 In 1997 she received an Editor\u2019s Choice Award for \u201cRecipe for a Happy Holiday,\u201d a poem which was published in an anthology by The National Library of Poetry.\u00a0 Lucile was no stranger to challenges in life but consistently demonstrated steadfast faith and contentment, inspiring others to embody the same.\u00a0 She was a living example of her favorite scripture; Proverbs 3:5-6; \u201cTrust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.\u00a0 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to her parents, Lucile was preceded in death by her mother-in law, Marguerite June Taft Clancy Doorley (Francis E. Clancy); her son, Chad Clancy; her son in law, Jim Watson; and a very near and dear to her heart niece, Diane Kempf ;\u00a0 three sister in laws, Patricia Clancy Thorn, Beverly Clancy Blumenfeld and Linda Dininny Clancy;\u00a0 four brothers in law, Richard Clancy, John \u00a0\u201cJack\u201d Emo, Gene Thorn and Ralph Dewey.<\/p>\n
In addition to her husband, Fran, surviving are 5 daughters; Kelly (Kevin) Spencer of Kingwood, TX, Charlene (Chuck) McMahon of Rochester, Liana (Greg) Sauers of Amherst, NY, Myra Clancy of Hornell and Felicia (Matt) Hershman of Honeoye Falls, NY; 2 sons, Brendan (Patty) Clancy of Alfred Station and Vaughn (Theresa Kemp) Clancy of Hornell; 2 brothers, Martin (Evelyn) Brasted of Johnstown, PA and Lee (Martha) Brasted of Kingwood, TX; 3 sisters, Shirley Dewey of Canandaigua, Eloise (Dick) Bossard of Howard and Ellen (Jon) Horton of Springville, NY; in-laws, Alan & Mary Jane Clancy, Mary Ann Emo and Mark Blumenfeld; 22 grandchildren, Matthew, Rori, Christina, Covey, Bianca, Brandt, Devlin, Caden, Brookelle, Francis, Ashlynne, Lakin, Maggie, Charley, Jimmy, Ricky, Iris, Maisy, Cora Lucile, Jordy, Franny and Julia; 10 great-grandchildren; Belle, Addis, Amelia, Kylo, Layla, Ida May, Jackson, Bruce, Stella and Nora, along with many nieces & nephews.<\/p>\n
The family of Lucile May Clancy will receive friends on Thursday, June 18th from 4 to 6 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 Private services will be held by the family.<\/p>\n
