Cheresnowsky of 1143 Haskell Road, Hornell, died early Thursday morning (December 15, 2011) at his home, following a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>A native and lifelong resident of Hornell, he was born August 26, 1931 and was the son of the late John &amp; Anna (Shutowich) Cheresnowsky.<\/p>\n<p>George was a graduate of Hornell High School (Class of 1951).\u00a0 Following high school, he began working as a mason \/ bricklayer.\u00a0 He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Following his discharge from the US Army, George continued his work as a mason \/ bricklayer.\u00a0 He left his mark with his craftsmanship across the Southern Tier, having built many schools, colleges, office buildings and wineries.\u00a0 George was a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers &amp; Allied Craft Workers, receiving his Gold Card in 2001.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>George was engaged in Beef Farming his entire adult life.\u00a0 He was a member of the New York State Beef Cattleman\u2019s Association, receiving numerous awards for his Feeder Calves.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and had been a communicant of both St. Ignatius Loyola Church and<br \/>\nSt. Ann\u2019s Church.\u00a0\u00a0 He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter.\u00a0 He also enjoyed making model airplanes.<\/p>\n<p>George was married on June 11, 1955 to the former Margaret \u201cBonnie\u201d Donlon who died April 15, 2007.\u00a0 Also preceded in death by five brothers, Mike, Peter, Joseph, Ted and his twin brother, Harry; four sisters, Mary Spak, Millie Gates, Liz Cherron and Helen Cheresnowsky; his daughter-in-law, Mary Cheresnowsky.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are three sons, John (Debbie) Cheresnowsky of Columbia, MD, Timothy (Marci Trimble) Cheresnowsky of Hornell and Thomas (Fran-Marie) Cheresnowsky of Hornell; four daughters, Mary Anne (Bill) Burger of Livonia, Kate (Roger) Gray of Caledonia, Sue (Monte) Hurd of Livonia and Monica (Terry Ostrander) Cheresnowsky of Hornell; one sister, Lillian Howe of Arkport; his in-laws, Jacquie (Jack ) McGraw, Beverly Donlon, Elaine (Barry) Ceci, Beth Ann Donlon, Joseph Donlon and Michael Donlon; eleven grandchildren, George, Marla, Erin, April, Travis (Lisa), Mark, Joshua, Kyle, Sarah, Megan and Joseph; his 2 \u201clittle buddies\u201d, Jack Jiusto &amp; Emma Jiusto; four great-grandchildren, Brett, Dillon, Kirsten &amp; Molly; many nieces, nephews and cousins.\u00a0 He also will be sadly missed by many friends and neighbors, including his lifelong friend, Nuncio \u201cBute\u201d DiCosimo; and George\u2019s his faithful dog, Buster.<\/p>\n<p>The family of George J. Cheresnowsky will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.\u00a0 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 11:00 AM at<br \/>\nSt. Ann\u2019s Church with burial in St. Mary\u2019s Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>George\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>In honor of George\u2019s service to his country during the Korean Conflict, the flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at Half-Staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>George J.
