{"id":899,"date":"2012-01-23T20:21:11","date_gmt":"2012-01-23T20:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=899"},"modified":"2012-01-23T20:21:11","modified_gmt":"2012-01-23T20:21:11","slug":"myer-spitulnik","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?p=899","title":{"rendered":"Myer Spitulnik"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-900\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/?attachment_id=900\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-900\" title=\"Myer Spitulnik Obit\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Myer-Spitulnik-Obit-250x314.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Myer-Spitulnik-Obit-250x314.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Myer-Spitulnik-Obit-200x251.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.dagonfuneralhome.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Myer-Spitulnik-Obit.jpg 389w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Myer Spitulnik \u2013 88 \u2013 of 425 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell, died Sunday evening (January 22, 2012) at the Seager-Bates Home in Hornell, where he had resided for the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Hornell on April 25, 1923, he was the son of Frank &amp; Rose (Kaminsky) Spitulnik.<\/p>\n<p>Myer grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1942) where he played football, baseball and was manager of the basketball team.\u00a0 He later attended Alfred University where he was a member of the Alfred Saxton Football Team.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of the US Navy during WWII, serving as an Armed Guard on various ships throughout the war.<!--more-->For many years, Myer owned &amp; operated Hornell Waste Material of Hornell, a scrap metal re-cycling company.\u00a0 He had been a member of the Hornell Moose Lodge and also the Hornell Elks.\u00a0 He was an avid golfer and had been a member of the Hornell Country Club.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Myer\u2019s was a man whose love for his family was boundless.\u00a0 He thoroughly enjoyed family re-unions, family picnics and especially loved attending his grandchildren\u2019s sporting events and other school activities.\u00a0 He will also be sadly missed by his many friends throughout the Hornell community.<\/p>\n<p>He was married on April 18, 1963 to the former Margaret \u201cPeg\u201d Haggerty who died February 18, 1999.\u00a0 He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Benjamin \u201cBen\u201d Spitulnik, Harry Spitulnik, Sol Spitulnik &amp; Isadore \u201cIzzy\u201d Spitulnik; 1 sister, Pauline Kaplan.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are 2 sons, Frank (Andrea) Spitulnik of Arkport and Daniel (Vanessa) Spitulnik of Hornell; 5 grandchildren, Myer, Vivianne, Jane, Ella &amp; Sam; several nieces &amp; nephews.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Myer Spitulnik will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday.\u00a0 Burial will be in Beth-El Cemetery, Hornell.<\/p>\n<p>Myer\u2019s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.\u00a0 Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Myer\u2019s service to his country during WWII, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Myer Spitulnik \u2013 88 \u2013 of 425 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell, died Sunday evening (January 22, 2012) at the Seager-Bates Home in Hornell, where he had resided for the past year.
