Susan E. Stillman

Susan E. “Sue” Stillman – (64) – of 44 Lisi Lane, Hornell, went to be with the Lord when she passed away Friday evening (November 1, 2013) at her home, following a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS — Lou Gehrig’s disease). 

Born in Brockton, MA on November 7, 1948, she was the daughter of Edward & Emily (Reardon) Stoddard. 

Sue grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School (class of 1966).  Following graduation from high school, she worked for numerous shoe manufacturing companies in Massachusetts & Maine, including the Knapp Shoe company of Brocton, MA.  She resided in Florida for several years where she was employed at Disney World as custodial host at EPCOT Center.  

In 1993, she moved to Hornell and decided further her education and obtained her Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) license through the Hornell BOCES Program.  She later went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). 

For about 2 years, Sue worked at the Hornell Campfire Office and for about 15 years worked as an LPN at McAuley Manor in Hornell.  She later was employed as an LPN in the office of Dr. Virginia Shepard at Elm Street Family Practice in Hornell , working until she was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. 

Sue was a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church in Hornell and had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hornell VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American War Dads. 

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Graham.

She was married in June 21, 1991 to James Stillman who survives.  Also surviving are her children, Sean (Cathy) Adams of Avon, Kevin (Debbie) Adams of Orlando, FL, Scott (Robin Brown) Adams of Hornell & Brendon (Jessie) Adams of Spring Lake, NC, Erin Adams of Hornell,  Jessica (Shawn) Garling of Canaseraga, Patricia (John) Easely of Lumberton, TX, Tim Stillman of Lumberton, TX and Michelle (Brandy Linden) Jacobson of Webster; 1 brother, William “Billy” (Mary Ellen) Stoddard of Brockton, MA; 3 sisters, Katherine Cobis of Laughman, FL, Jane Card of Laughman, FL and Mary (Flash) Taylor of Laughman, FL and; 13 grandchildren, Riley Adams, Cole Adams, Owen Adams, Dillon Adams, Connor Adams, Liam Adams, Alanna Adams, Katelynn Flynn, Elizabeth Sagert, Logan Garling, Emily Easely, Ashley Easely & Emily Richardson; her former husband, Vernon Dean Adams; several nieces & nephews. 

At Sue’s request there will be no calling hours.  A Memorial Service will be held on a Thrusday, November 7, 2013 at New Hope Wesleyan Church, Pine St., Hornell with Pastor Douglas Jones officiating.   A luncheon for family & friends will follow at the Hornell VFW.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. 

A special thank-you goes out to the Hearts of ALS, MDH, Wesleyan Church, CareFirst Hospice, Hornell VFW, and all of the wonderful people of Hornell & Bath, NY. 

Sue’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to Hearts For ALS — New York, PO Box 272, Avon, NY 14414 or to the CareFirst Hospice (Southern Tier Hospice), 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, NY  14830.
